Weekend Wonderer – “Resurrection”

Posted by Jamie ConcepcionJamie Concepcion On April - 3 - 2010

Easter is this Sunday, so why not spend your weekend watching movies that involve some type of  resurrection, or something close to it.

The Matrix - Neo dies toward the end and then comes back to life realizing he doesn’t enjoy being shot.

*

The Princess Bride - After being ‘mostly dead’ Westley is resurrected by a pill made by a man who hates Humperdinck as much as Westley does.

*

The Crow – An unfortunate couple are attacked by gang thugs. Both are killed. A year later the man is resurrected by a crow and he goes on his obligatory revenge quest.

*

Kill Bill - The bride gets shot in the head and left for dead.  Everyone involved assumes her to be dead and probably wished they had checked for a pulse afterward.

*

Spawn – Al Simmons, a military assassin, is betrayed and murdered.  Upon arrival in hell he is offered the ability to return to Earth as the servant of Malebolgia.

*

Terminator Salvation - OK, so this isn’t that great of a movie, but Sam Worthington’s character gets the death penalty then reappears later in the movie out of a destroyed lab.

*

Crank 2 - If you saw the first movie you were probably pretty sure Chev Chelios was dead or going to die.  Apparently he wasn’t.

*

2001: A Space Odyssey - The character doesn’t really die, but he seems to be re-born. Couldn’t that also be consider a resurrection in a sense?

*

Darkman - Liam Neeson plays a man who is attacked and left for dead. He survives but is horribly scarred and later enacts his revenge.

*

Superman: Doomsday - Superman dies after a fight with Doomsday, but doesn’t stay dead. In the comic world this isn’t really surprising.

*

Bioshock 2 - This one’s a video game, but it’s recent and 5 minutes in you’re shooting yourself in the head. 10 years later you’re brought back to life.

*

Any movie about Jesus – You all know the story right? If you don’t here’s the gist – Jesus got killed on a Friday and on Sunday he was resurrected.

I’d love to hear other suggestions if anyone has any. If you couldn’t tell from the above list horror is disqualified for using resurrection too frequently.
