The floating head of Abraham Lincoln. Really, if I explain past that, I’m just ruining things. But I suppose given that this is a review, I must go further. The floating head of Abraham Lincoln stars in Thinkin’ Lincoln, a webcomic by Miles Grover. It details little adventures and jokes about history and wacky situations with Lincoln’s closest friends, like George Washington or Queen Elizabeth II. Abe just cruises around and learns important things about life, love, and the world in general. With the help of Charles Darwin and Zombie Mark Twain, he will reach adulthood and learn a number of life lessons. It may not seem like it fits, but it certainly does.
Every character only has a head. There’s no body accompanying the protagonist or his friends. Floating severed heads. That’s right. And yet, this does nothing to keep you from relating to Lincoln, who is a very immature young president that needs to do a lot to learn how to behave around people. In the strangest way, Thinkin’ Lincoln is a coming of age story, despite the fact that Abraham Lincoln was born in the early 1800s. And dear God, the hilarity manages to shine in this comic.
Abe laughs. He loves. He has laser vision. It’s everything a good presidential story needs. Within the series, there is a good amount of commentary on human nature and the oddest things in life, which manages to remain very funny. With the strong opinions shared by historical figures, it often winds up being hard to find fault with their ideas. Especially considering that they’re out forefathers, giving us more of a reason to trust them. With magic, and politics, and friendship, we have a lot to learn and laugh at with Thinkin’ Lincoln.
Unfortunately, a loss Miles Grover suffered at the end of the year has caused him to go on hiatus from both Thinkin’ Lincoln and his other comic Creep House. We wish him the best, and hope that soon everything will start to go a little better for him. Good vibes are definitely sent his way, after all, he’s provided me with enough laughs that I feel I owe him. But in the meantime, while Miles takes his break, you can go look through the archives for a chuckle and maybe send him your well wishes. Thinkin’ Lincoln is truly an entertaining and thought-provoking series that is worth your time, especially if you love Abraham Lincoln.
