The internet is full of guides to life. Everywhere you go, people are trying to tell you what to do and how to live and what brand of orange juice to buy. But outside of the screaming voices telling you to hurt people or to burn things, there is sometimes an individual that comes along who shows that he’s all about helping you in times of crisis. Much like when I covered Surviving the World, we can learn a great deal from the just-in-case guides as presented in The Oatmeal. Matthew Inman draws and writes some pretty good guides about how to handle certain situations, for everything from ‘How to Use a Semicolon’ to ‘What Marcellus Wallace Looks Like’. Follow these guides and you can never go wrong. I almost practically kind-of but don’t really guarantee it.
There are a lot of things Mr. Inman covers, like zombies, ponies, Santa, beer, computers, bears, cannibals, war, coffee, and fighting dolphins. With handy step-by-step instructions, as well as cautionary tales, he acts as kind of a guide for you in your daily life. His figures almost act as experimental test-subjects that show you what to look out for and what to be most careful with when carrying out some assignment. And beyond just telling us all about what we should be cautious of, he indirectly informs us with comics about the things he feels are terrible and invasive in his life. For instance, Mr. Inman hates printers. Honestly. Go to the site and check. This and a number of other things are explored that will allow us to prevent the end of the world and refrain from technological meltdown.
But wait! There’s more! The Oatmeal also is home to a number of quizzes that help to gauge just how prepared/capable you are in regards to certain obstacles. Have you ever wondered how many baboons you could actually fight? Wonder no more, as The Oatmeal covers this and a variety of other topics. Yes, The Oatmeal is an incredible source of helpful information, provided with an enjoyable garnish of comedy. Surprisingly, finding out how long you could survive after kicking a bear in the bean-bag is considered quite humorous. So yes, if you’re looking for a laugh and some fun informative guidelines, check out The Oatmeal. You’ll definitely enjoy what you see.
