Natalie Dee is responsible for all of those weird, cutesy-ass drawing of cupcakes and monkeys and stuff. The ones you see on t-shirts and all sorts of different peoples’ web pages. On the MyBook and the FaceSpace, or whatever you call it nowadays. And I say cutesy-ass with no disrespect, in fact it’s her art style that adds to the humor of her daily drawings. Every day of the week, Natalie Dee, a mastermind over at Sharing Machine, does some very good work with what must be ease. I mean, come on, she does a piece every day. She’s got talent.
Despite the art seeming kind of basic, what with the stick figures and all, Natalie shows that she’s got a good eye for textures and coloring and tones and a bunch of other art words that apply to these things. Not only that, but she’s damn funny, too. With a small, one-panel shot each day, she can either make a crack at a bizarre or creepy looking animal, or she can ridicule what I have to imagine are people she knows/has known in her real life. It’s definitely the humor that spills into her other work, which I will certainly be taking a look at in the future.
From piggies to pot roast, Natalie can make anything look adorable with a hint of disturbing horror or pathetic awkwardness. In that, the humor remains dominant day-by-day. All of Natalie’s comics are Facebookable, and Twitterable, and Diggable, and Stumble Uponable. Meaning you can basically share her work with friends instantly. Not a bad idea, considering the feel of her comics. It just strikes me as the type of funny that would work well very suddenly, when you least expect it. I turn a corner and BAM, there’s an adorable pudding cup staring me in the face.
Natalie Dee and all the Sharing Machine comics are worth a look, as they’re a quick read and there are a ton of them to flip through. Plus, they do happen to be quite funny.
