The Hornet is Back, Damn You

If you know a good deal about the movie deals that fell through with Kevin Smith in his earlier days as a filmmaker, you know that The Green Hornet was one of the films optioned to Smith.  While Smith’s idea obviously fell through, there was still plenty of content from what Smith wrote in drafts to do Dynamite’s new Green Hornet series.  And luckily, the book isn’t about to fall into the habit of other Smith books with unmet deadlines due to the scripts of all ten issues being in already.  Now we can sit back and see a monthly comic written by Kevin Smith.  Something I never thought I would see.

So Dynamite is soon to release the new Green Hornet series, along with The Green Hornet Year One by Matt Wagner.  It’s good to see that there is the possibility for salvaging unused works by writers like Smith.  It would be great to see an adaptation of his Superman script, but I’m not too sure it’ll happen.  The main reason we’re seeing this new series launch is because of the new Green Hornet movie soon to be released starring Seth Rogen.

Oh, and the other reason being that Dynamite Entertainment seems to hunt down properties and secure the opportunity to produce the comics.  Army of Darkness, Zorro, The Lone Ranger… Dynamite does them all.  It kind of figures that they’d go after another detective/hero character.  Of course, they could end up either making it a high-selling series, or it could go spinning out of control, sending the Hornet to team up with all sorts of crazy characters.

The Green Hornet will begin in March, so be sure to give it a look.

Didn’t Kevin Smith write a story arc for Green Arrow? Maybe he just likes writing series about heroes with green in their names.
