First off I have to admit, I didn’t read the book this is based on. I’ve only read one Cormac McCarthy novel and that was The Road, before a movie was mentioned.
I’d have a very hard time saying No Country For Old Men is my favorite film by the Coen Brothers, but that’s because they made The Big Lebowski, so I guess I could comfortably say it’s my second favorite. It’s a great film that tells the stories of a man who stumbles across a drug deal gone bad and two million dollars and the hitman who hunts him for the money he found and took. There’s so many great moments in the film, it’d be hard to mention them, especially because I don’t want to spoil anything.
In 2008 No Country For Old Men won the Academy Award for best picture, while the Coen brothers won best director and best adapted screenplay. Javier Bardem won for Best Supporting Actor. I’m glad that he won, because he was great in the film, but I feel like a lot it focuses on his character and maybe he should have just been nominated for Best Actor in general. But, Daniel Day-Lewis won that for There Will be Blood, so maybe it was better than he wasn’t going against him.
