All right, fine! I HAVE A CRUSH ON ROSARIO DAWSON. Let’s drop it and move on.
Today I’ll be giving you the facts on Clerks 2, which is as of right now the last in a long line of Kevin Smith’s View Askewniverse movies. It is quite the funny little gem that I deem important because it shows Smith getting back into how he mainly was when he first started out, which was having a deeper statement to make about relationships and growing up.
The sequel to Clerks returns us to Dante and Randal, who now work at Mooby’s after the burning down of the Quick Stop. Along with them is of course Jay and Silent Bob, who have come a long way in their travels (the film makes numerous references to the events of Dogma and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back). In the film Dante is planning to finally leave New Jersey with his fiancee, sending Randal into a slight panic. This forces them to seriously analyze their relationship and codependency. Oh, and most importantly? Rosario Dawson dances on a roof. Yes she does… yes she does.
The elements of friendship, adulthood and responsibility that Smith covers in his film is amazing, while still maintaining that savory nerd humor with jokes about the Transformers and Star Wars. Plus we get a couple guest appearances from longtime View Askew mainstays Ben Affleck and Jason Lee, both of whom I am a big fan of. But the most important aspect? Rosario Dawson. Dancing. Jackson 5. Glorious. That alone makes Smith a visionary.
