Someone Needs to Talk to Marvel

Posted by Dillon St. Jean On January - 30 - 2010

This needs to stop.  Or at least slow down.  Marvel has recently unveiled over twenty variant covers to different Marvel titles.  In wanton disregard for the idea that they’re beating this into the dirt, they’ve pushed the idea that “everybody loves more Deadpool” and refuses to let up.  I suppose after the zombie variants and all the other different themes they’ve been trying out, Deadpool was just a matter of time, but this needs to stop.  Soon.

How much money can they expect to make off this?  Will there really be enough people to purchase these covers to justify this move?  Sure, there’s plenty of people who would pay for these, just to have the set, but for God’s sake, I can’t imagine enough people will do so to make it work.  Marvel is doing exactly what it shouldn’t be doing, as I’ve been saying right along, and that’s about how they’re killing the popularity of a well-liked character by flooding the market with him.  It’s still beyond me that Deadpool has three titles ongoing right now.  But to begin slapping him on all these unrelated books is just a bit much.

I suppose there’s no way to know how this will really work for them until they actually go out onto the market.  But the joke, it’s being stretched just so, so thin.
