Scott Pilgrim’s Finest News Updates

Posted by Dillon St. JeanDillon St. Jean On March - 20 - 2010

The beginning of the end begins and ends here where the end becomes the beginning.  Again.

Oh my God, I can’t wait for volume six of Scott Pilgrim.  Scott Pilgrim’s Finest Hour was revealed yesterday as the final book in the series, wherein we’ll mainly be expecting Scott to finally take on Gideon in the final ultimate battle of supreme finality until one of them is a dead deceased corpse.  We’re apparently looking at a July 20th, 2010 release, which I’m not sure if I can sit patiently for.  Too much needs to happen, and I’m way too excited.  Will Scott wind up with Ramona?  Is Stephen Stills going to stop being a dick?  And when is Young Neil finally going to straighten up and deal with his problems?

Let’s take a look at the cover.  We’ve got Scott brandishing the sword he achieved in volume four, which is already awesome.  Gideon is off in the background looking menacing, and the ladies in Scott’s life all looking more than a little concerned (other than Envy, who seems miserable as ever.)  Given that this is mainly a story of a guy who is primarily a bit of a bum becoming more of a mature adult, I’d like to think this indicates that Scott is going to get over all of his hangy-upy things and finally take charge of his life.  But there are no promises.  Hell, it doesn’t even seem clear any more that Ramona is the girl Scott is supposed to be with.  I guess we’ll have to wait to find out, as much as that kills me.

Oddly enough, one of the big things that’s been on my mind lately is what series creator Bryan Lee O’Malley is planning after its completion?  I suppose he may decide to take some time off and focus on his music (O’Malley creates music under the name of Kupek) but I really would like to see him launch into something equally as cool as Scott Pilgrim.  Maybe a new series.  Maybe one about Kim Pine.  That would be a damn fine book.  I assume.

So the book comes out in July.  Let’s see… there was something else I was supposed to mention… what was it… OH YEAH:

Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World movie poster went online.  Yeah, that.  Yeah.

I’ll be the first to admit that the type of series that Scott Pilgrim is doesn’t really lend all of itself to live action.  With some of the crazy antics and subject matter, it could seem difficult to really get a good grasp of the fun with real people.  However, everyone involved has my trust.  Michael Cera, despite often being pigeonholed in the same role over and over again, is enjoyable to watch.  Chris Evans, Brandon Routh, Jason Schwartzman… all fine actors.  Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Alison Pill, Kieran Culkin.  A number of actors that should do very well in their roles.  Not to mention the director is Edgar Wright, who I am a very big fan of.  So I’m willing to believe that this has been put together with the most care and attention to detail as the team could muster.  Still, I’m going to do for this movie what I did for The Dark Knight: assume the worst.  For The Dark Knight, I assumed everyone would have Bat-Nipples.  Scott Pilgrim will be no different.  I assume everyone has Bat-Nipples.

I plan to keep the site updated with SPVTW news whenever something significant comes out.  I can’t wait for the trailer.  So check back for news regarding my favorite series about a dude in a band fighting villainous ex-boyfriends of the girl he loves.  I’ll be over there, waiting to find out when Sex Bob-Omb t-shirts are going to become available.  Because you know they totally will.
