This is one of those movies you probably either love for its campiness, or hate for the same reason. The cast is full of actors that I wouldn’t want to watch in anything else (except for Michael Ironside and Neil Patrick Harris). Released in 1997, it’s the last movie Paul Verhoeven made that I would watch again or have even seen more than once. It is far from his best movie though, he also directed Total Recall and Robocop. And no, I didn’t purposely pick a movie he directed two weeks in a row.
The story is loosely based on a book by Robert A. Heinlein, which I have to admit I’ve never read. I’ve heard elsewhere that the book is very anti-military anti-war, but this movie is very action oriented and seemingly pro-war. I’ll let the trailer below fill you in on what exactly the movie has in store for you. Like last weeks Total Recall trailer it may seem spoiler filled. What is it about the trailers for Paul Verhoeven movies being like that? I wonder if the trailer for Robocop ruins most of the surprises.
