Another week, another series of books I demand you read lest you be shunned from the internet forever. I do this for you, really. I’m like a heroic figure. Keep that in mind, all of you.
Single Issues:
Avengers Academy #1 – It’s a new class, and Hank Pym is going to smack these kids into shape. In the face. Permanently ruining his marriage. Damn! I’m doing it wrong again, aren’t I?
Batgirl #11 – Batgirl fights Man-Bat this issue, meaning we’ll finally have an interesting villain. ZING! Take that, Roxy Rocket. Ya jerk.
Batman #700 – We take a look at the Batmen of different eras: Bruce Wayne, Dick Grayson, and Damian Wayne. Perhaps they’ll solve the mystery of why Damian’s Batman costume looks so crappy.
Booster Gold #33 – As a result of Generation Lost, Booster is… not feeling too fresh. I understand he’ll need to use time travel to meet up with the JLI. How that will help I have no idea.
Buzzard #1 – Because after all, if Powell isn’t going to give us any Goon comics, at least he can give us a mini about one of his series’ best characters. He’d better be hard at work on that Goon movie, that’s all I’m saying.
Cowboy Ninja Viking #6 – Get ready for the single issue with the most split-personalities you’ve ever read about ever. Seriously, they’re everywhere. Even the split-personalities are hearing things.
Justice League: Generation Lost #3 – Max Lord is apparently screwing with Jaime now. If he hurts that young Mexican-American superhero I shall be royally pissed.
S.H.I.E.L.D. #2 – If you weren’t sold on the first issue there’s nothing I can really do to help you. Clearly you don’t understand what awesome things are.
Titans #24 – Deathstroke leads his new team after Lex Luthor. I don’t know. I didn’t even read the last Atom ongoing and I’m pissed that they killed Ryan Choi. It makes it hard for me to trust this book.
Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #11 – Advertised as the worst day in Peter’s life, it looks like the biggest threat to Spider-Man could be his former boss J. Jonah Jameson. Watch out, he’s got a chair!
Young Allies #1 – When I saw Gravity I said “I’m sold.” Then I saw Arãna and said “I’m double sold.” Then I saw Firestar and said “Huh?” Because why is she on a team of teenagers? Isn’t she, like… older?
Collections:
Blacksad Vol. 1 (HC) – It’s about a French panther-detective who is hardcore and French. I’ve been waiting for the English translation of this book for a while now and I’m pretty stoked.
Chew Vol. 2: International Flavor (TPB) – Keep on following Agent Chu as he goes on an international assignment regarding a newly discovered fruit. I promise you this book is much more interesting than how I make it sound.
Neil Young’s Greendale (HC) – Based off the Neil Young album of the same name, it looks to be a really interesting story. I love the use of music to make comics. It’s glorious.
Spawn Origins Deluxe Edition Vol. 1 (HC) – Containing the first 25 issues of Spawn. Be prepared though. This bad boy is in the $100 range. So this might need to be an Amazon buy for some of you. Get those discounts kids!
Ultimate Spider-Man Vol. 11 (HC) – The final volume in Ultimate Spider-Man’s first series. I love this series so much and this volume will finish off my set. I just hope they come out with the oversized hardcovers for Ultimate Comics Spider-Man. Oh, and all the others.
Jamie’s Picks
Chew #11 – Tony Chu is investigating a group of very rich people who go to great lengths to illegally obtain and eat rare meats.
Spider-Man Fever #3 (of 3) – Spider-Man and Dr. Strange are in some creepy arachnid world. It’s very trippy. I feel bad for not mentioning this sooner.
Mass Effect: Redemption (TPB) – The first comic series from one of the richest universes in video games. The story of Liara T’Soni investigating the Shadow Broker.
