Read These, Burn the Rest – July 8th, 2010

Yay!  I can art good!  Jamie’s had a bit of a… technical snafu.  He has entrusted me to cover Read These, Burn the Rest this week… ALL ALONE.  Do you like my image this week?  It took me three months in Photoshop to get it just right.  And it has a happy crab!  Hooray!

Single Issues:

Batman and Robin #13 – Robin’s first encounter with the Joker. He’s surprisingly casual about the whole thing. You think he’d be excited to meet a new possible crowbar victim.

*

Brightest Day #5 – I feel like this book can’t really be all that hyped up when DC has pretty much announced that you should stick around until at least issue 9, when stuff really gets going.

*

Red Robin #14 – Tim’s been pretty busy rounding up all the villains in Gotham. It’s weird, his talks of big plans makes him sound like Light from Death Note.

*

The Boys #44 – Back into the swing of things after Hughie was horribly, horribly wounded by Malchemical. Butcher had better make it up to his little Scottish pal. Seriously, he was being a dick.

*

Kill Shakespeare #3 – We continue reading an epic story about the hunt for Shakespeare, and secretly we are tricked into wanting to read more literature. Damn it! I desire to read King Lear suddenly.

*

Avengers: The Children’s Crusade #1 – Whatever happened to the Scarlet Witch? The Young Avengers are determined to find out, especially the two members who are more likely than not her sons.

*

Casanova #1 – Matt Fraction’s Casanova returns. I’ll be honest; I’ve yet to read any of Casanova. I’m gonna! I promise. It’s only my list of things to do.  Fraction is an amazing writer.

*

Scarlet #1 – Bendis is working on a brand new project with Alex Maleev.  Both great guys, and this looks like it could be an awesome new title.

*

Thor the Mighty Avenger #1 – It’s Thor, baby. You know you gots to have it.

*

X-Men #1 – From what I saw in previews, Jubilee is a vampire.  I’m in.

*

Young Allies #2 – Any villains named the Bastards of Evil must be trying way too hard.  Hey look!  Nomad is in this book!

*

Collections:

Blackest Night (HC) – Collecting all eight issues of Blackest Night.  Spoiler alert: it ends with an epic battle between Casper and Beetlejuice.
