For horror icons, not too many are as well known as Freddy Krueger. Much of that is thanks to Robert Englund, the actor who has portrayed Krueger in every movie of the Nightmare on Elm Street saga, before the remake. Englund is the type of actor who can manage an incredibly creepy demeanor and threatening persona. Besides A Nightmare on Elm Street, Englund is also known for having been in the original V miniseries. Beyond that, we don’t really need to know much else because it’s Robert Englund. This man is just too awesome for words.
Englund is an actor well-associated with the horror genre, having been in films such as ‘Dead & Buried’ and ‘Galaxy of Terror’. However, his most widely known role is as Freddy, the fire-scarred Christmas-sweater-wearing dream stalker who turned Johnny Depp into a human blood fountain. Even his mannerisms, such as the graceful gliding of his bladed glove across the cheek of a young woman illustrate just how frightening Englund can be. Hell, even when the series began to degrade he proved how funny he could be, too. He’s just got that kind of a voice.
Yeah, this guy is good with these hand poses.
Because of how much of a fan base was established with the Elm Street films, Englund has also appeared in a number of other horror movies like ‘Hatchet’ and ‘Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon’. That’s not even counting the voice work that he has gotten into as villains such as Felix Faust on JLU, Dormammu on The Super Hero Squad Show… oh, and this:
The Riddler. He played Riddler on The Batman. Yes, this man is incredibly awesome. Englund is one of those actors who has such a distinct voice that can make you laugh or cringe when you hear it. While he may just be doing cartoons and lesser-known horror movies nowadays, that doesn’t make him any less amazing than he always has been.
