People We Admire – Patton Oswalt
I can’t believe I haven’t done a People We Admire on Patton Oswalt yet !! Believe it or not(why wouldn’t you though?) a blog post Patton wrote on his Myspace page about TV shows he enjoys was actually one of the things that inspired me to start this amazing blog. It’s time for me to repay him by confessing my great and completely heterosexual man-love.
I ‘m going to try and keep this short.
Patton has been a stand-up comedian for around 20 years and his albums are some of the best in comedy. If you’ve only seen him in the shows or movies he’s been in you’re really missing out. His stand-up is top notch and shouldn’t be missed. Check out the review I wrote for his latest album My Weakness is Strong.
On to the TV shows and movies he has done. I think most people would recognize him from his role as Spence in King of Queens. You may have also caught a brief glimpse of him in Blade before he was murdered by that Dracula with the incredibly large and disproportionate head. Patton’s largest (and by largest I mean monetarily) role was in the Pixar film Ratatouille where he voiced the chef rat Remy. Most recently he starred in the indie film Big Fan about a sad man who likes the Giants a little too much. A lot of his nerd-cred in this area comes from his appearances on shows like Reno 911, Dollhouse, and Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! As well as voicing characters in episodes of Spongebob, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, and The Venture Brothers.
It’s cool Patton, we forgive you for being in Balls of Fury. Everyone has to eat right?
He writes too, and not just jokes. Mr. Oswalt has written a few comic issues before, and is currently working on Serenity:Float Out, a story set in the Firefly universe where ‘Wash’ (the pilot) is eulogized by three of his friends. It will hit store shelves this June.
There you go. I’m sure you can find more stuff he’s done that I forgot/neglected to mention if you Google or search him on Wikipedia. But, if after all this if you don’t think Patton Oswalt is one of the coolest famous nerds than I would love to hear what you have to say.
