People We Admire – David Tennant

Posted by Dillon St. Jean On December - 31 - 2009

Wow, we haven’t done a People We Admire since Halloween?  Well, no worries, I’m here to fix that.

David Tennant is the current, soon to be former, Doctor Who.  He is the tenth actor to take on the role, and for a lot of people he will be the most memorable.  Tennant brought a spectacular energy and eccentricity to the character.  In his brown or blue suits coated by a long trench coat, Tennant made the character his own, as his predecessors have, but used a personality that made it thrilling to watch him solve mysteries and crises throughout time and space.  I felt it would be nice to take a look at this talented actor, as this Saturday his final portrayal of Doctor Who will air on BBC with Doctor Who: The End of Time Part Two.

The Scottish actor has starred in a number of British programming, including his work with the Royal Shakespeare Company.  He has appeared in performances of King Lear, The Merchant of Venice, and Romeo and Juliet.  His rise to fame truly came from his position as the Tenth Doctor in Doctor Who.  He was charming, enthusiastic, and confident.  His popularity rose even to the point that for many, Tennant’s Doctor was held above the long-favored Tom Baker Doctor, the scarfed predecessor to the role from many years back.  For three seasons, Tennant has dominated in the role and given fans amazing stories wherein the Doctor fought enemies like the Daleks, the Cybermen, and the Master.  Tennant’s image is currently the most widely-used of the Doctors for things such as the comic series’, or the animated programs.

Unfortunately, Tennant has decided to step down from the famous British role to move on to new projects.  I know it would be too much to hope for him to show up in a Nolanverse Batman role in the future, but good God it would be magnificent.  Be sure that you catch the final Tennant Doctor Who episode this Saturday.  It promises to be a great farewell to an amazing actor.  Tennant will be featured in next year’s John Landis film Burke and Hare alongside Simon Pegg.  Beyond that, I’m certain we’ll be seeing some fantastic things from him in the future.
