Browser Speed Tests – Opera Vs. Chrome

Posted by Jamie Concepcion On June - 3 - 2010Comments Off

Remember back in the day when Firefox was everything you’d hoped and dreamed for? It whisked you away from your abusive relationship with Internet Explorer(Exploder as a professor I once had called it). Well, now apparently there are even better browsers. I feel old for still using Firefox and even remembering the day when Internet Explorer was the better option in comparison to Netscape. Does anyone even remember Netscape?

Check out the speed test videos for Opera and Chrome after the cut.

WOW, AT&T is Blowing It

Posted by Maxwell Thunderbird On June - 2 - 2010Comments Off

AT&T just announced that unlimited data plans for new contract smartphones are a thing of the past. Now if you want to have data on your new iPhone you’re going to need to either go with 2 Gb or 200 Mb. 200 Mb?! That’s it?! That’s insane.

The 200 Mb plan will go for $15 a month, while the 2 Gb plan will be $25 monthly. The price for unlimited data was $30 a month. If you sign up for a 2 Gb plan and you go over you’ll have to pay $10 for each additional gigabyte.

I guess if you were due for a new phone and trying to decide between an iPhone or a Droid on the Verizon network this made up your mind. Be careful or quick though, I can definitely see Verizon following suit on this. As recent as a week ago some higher up at Verizon said unlimited data isn’t going to make sense soon.

In related news Sprint CEO Dan Hesse said they have no plans to change their pricing.

Lion-OH DAMN

Aw yeah, it’s the Thundercats, ho!  Finally, after a long period of just sitting around, the Thundercats franchise returns next year with a new show on Cartoon Network.  No, I haven’t fallen prey to delusions that the cartoon will look half as good as the first promo image, but I will in fact allow myself to become blissfully unaware of how bad it could potentially be.  I will remain in the middle, assuming it’ll be a fun cartoon I’ll watch sometimes.  But I want this to be badass so much, you have no idea.  I’m picturing so many potentially good things.  Mainly the idea of the first season ending on a colossal sword fight between Lion-O and Mumm-Ra.  Something involving incredible magic and outstanding combat wherein not even sight beyond sights can help the young leader.

This is Captain America!

It seems that the first pictures of the suit from Captain America: the First Avenger have appeared online via Joblo.com and Aint it cool news. In case you haven’t heard, Chris Evans is playing the role of Steve Rogers/ Captain America. The movie adaptation from the Marvel Comic created by Joe Simon is being directed by Joe Johnston (the Wolfman) and is scheduled to come out next year. Pictures after the break.

This is pretty interesting news for Spidey-fans: Donald Glover, well known comedian and comedy-actor from Derrick Comedy and NBC’s Community has begun a campaign to get himself an audition for the role of Spider-Man in the oncoming reboot of the franchise.  Many people are intimidated by the idea of such drastic change by having an actor play Spider-Man who also happens to be funny.  I mean, people got really used to Tobey Maguire and he isn’t funny.  I think the problem is that fans aren’t going to know what to do with a Spider-Man who’s funny.  Making Spider-Man funny doesn’t change his story at all.  It would be a different case if they made Captain America funny, because not a lot of people cared for the funny back in the 1940s.  After all, back then they made funny people drink from different water fountains.

Harry Potter in Gears of Wizardry

Posted by Andrew Witts On June - 2 - 20103 COMMENTS

EA’s first trailer from their game adaption of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 1 (Yeah even EA is milking the two part bologna)  is out and it is the most awesome thing I have ever seen from that franchise. For years now I have been reading and watching the books and movies only to see Harry be a complete waste of space. Seriously! Every single time there is a threat to the wizard world which only Harry can solve (you might disagree but inevitably it is up to him by the conclusion of each book/movie) he just keeps attending class like a complete doofus. The only thing that he has even killed/stabbed/hurt kind of bad is Tom Riddle’s diary (the Basilisk does not count because the Dumbledore’s damn bird helped him out big time). Just when I thought that Harry would never become the legendary “I am the shit!” magician that the series likes to boast, this trailer comes out of Harry Potter doing nothing but taking names and frying some death dealers. Check it out after the break. Read the rest of this entry »

First pictures of AMC’s the Walking Dead

Posted by Andrew Witts On June - 2 - 2010Comments Off

Robert Kirkman’s ongoing graphic novel series the Walking Dead is being turned into a tv series for AMC. Totally awesome-yet-to-do-wrong writer/director Frank Darabont (the Green Mile, the Shawshank Redemption, the Mist) and uber producer Gale Ann Hurd (Terminator, T2, and the Incredible Hulk) are the creative persons behind the product. From the look of these pictures and the quick featurette describing the show’s ambition, the series is going to be every single zombie lover’s fantasy. Hit the link to check dis chiznit out.

In the Best Toy News of the Day – Mez-Itz

Posted by Jamie Concepcion On June - 2 - 2010Comments Off

Mezco Toyz (they love their z’s) have just announced a deal with Warner Bros. Consumer Products to make DC Comics toys. But, not just any kind of toys, Mezco’s vinyl Mez-Itz figures. I’d been hoping DC would get a deal done with Hasbro to get some Mighty Muggs made, but since Hasbro had made Marvel Mighty Muggs, and they also seem to have abandoned all Mighty Muggs fans,  I don’t think anyone expected that to happen.  Now that wish has come true in a different way and similar vinyl figures of beloved DC characters are going to be made.

The first two characters are going to be Batman and The Joker. They will be revealed at San Diego Comic Con, which is also when the next wave will be announced.

Check below the cut for some picture examples of previous and upcoming vinyl Mez-Itz figures. You can find the rest and purchase them here.

Read These, Burn the Rest – June 3rd, 2010

Posted by Dillon St. Jean On June - 1 - 2010Comments Off

So in case you didn’t know, every week rectangular art-booklets telling serialized stories are released, and this week is no different.  Although it is different in the sense that because of the holiday the shipping is pushed back to Thursday.  So yeah.  Deal with that, folks.  Dreaded postage.
