Now we don’t really know what 4/20 means here at Never Not a Nerd, but apparently it’s a special day. Here is some music you could use to accompany your activities today.
Now I know there’s the obvious Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd, and Led Zeppelin. I also wanted to only include albums that could be streamed from Lala. Here are my thirteen recommendations of day-appropriate tunes. These aren’t in any order by the way.
For the first pick I think I have to be kind of obvious.
Pink Floyd – Dark Side of the Moon – If you can catch a laser light show that plays this DO IT!
I never expected it to be available on Lala, but it is, so enjoy.
Aphex Twin – Drukqs – Fantastic electronic double album. Best glitch album of all time?
Panda Bear – Person Pitch – “Try to remember always just to have a good time”.
Brightblack Morning Light – Brightblack Morning Light - A very slow, yet sexy album.
Amon Tobin – Supermodified – Amon Tobin is one of my favorite electronic musicians and this is one of his best albums.
The Mars Volta – Deloused in the Comatorium – The musicianship will blow your mind.
Turing Machine – Zwei – The best instrumental rock album that you’ve never heard. More people need to hear this album.
The Drift – Memory Drawings – Instrumental Jazz
The Mars Volta – Frances the Mute – Same great musicianship with way more Spanglish.
Explosions in the Sky – The Earth is Not a Cold Dead Place – One of the best ‘post-rock’ albums you may or may not have heard.
Captain Beyond – Captain Beyond – A very under-appreciated 70′s rock band.
The Field – From Here We Go Sublime – Ambient electronic music.
Spiritualized – Ladies & Gentlemen We are Floating in Space – The title should be enough. Great album with many layers.
