Nice Nice are an experimental duo from Portland, OR. This is their first album for Warp and was released on April 6th. Let’s see if Extra Wow is a fitting title for this album.
Extra Wow is an actually very fitting title. This is something you have to hear for yourself. It can be so different and sonically intense at certain points throughout the album that it could be called an experience.
YAY :
- I didn’t find out this was a duo until after my first listen. After learning that I was kind of amazed and would really like to see Nice Nice live now. These songs are pretty crazy in a good way. It’s not super accessible, but it should be given a chance.
- Like I said, this is an experience. Put on some headphones and lose yourself in it (You definitely want to listen to this with headphones on whenever possible).
- Most of the songs could be considered psychedelic or noise, but they each have their own sense to them while still feeling like they belong on the same album.
NAY :
- There’s no streaming version available. (I would love to get an e-mail proving otherwise because I want people to hear this album.)
Some people will want to call this album challenging, while others will be quick to compare it to other artists like Animal Collective. It’s definitely different, and it’s definitely worth your time. It just so happens that the album that would probably benefit readers most by being able to be streamed once for free does not have that capability. If you want to know what this sounds like, you’re going to have to buy it.
Album Highlights : “A Way We Glow”, “On and On”, “Big Bounce“ , “See Waves” & “A Little Love”
Here’s a track that can be streamed from Warp. Unlike this song, most of the album does not have vocals.
