The title of this post is actually the tag line for Fast & Furious, the fourth movie in a series of films based around cars and how they effect the lives of the characters. The cast of the first movie: Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Michelle Rodriguez, and Jordana Brewster, came back to make this one. It takes place in a confusing time period amoung the others in the series. I know the beginning is supposed to take place before Tokyo Drift, but is the end supposed to as well? I think only the writers are supposed to know.
Dom’s (Vin Diesel) former girlfriend Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) is murdered, he then returns to LA to find out what happened. The FBI is working a case where they are looking to shut down a drug lord they know nothing about named Braga, who is running heroin from Mexico into the United States. Dom finds out that Letty worked for Braga when she was killed so he enters a race, that if he wins, will make him eligible to drive for Braga. FBI agent Brian O’Connor (Paul Walker) also enters the race as an opportunity to get close to Braga’s operation and learn his identity so the Feds can shut him down. Dom and Brian join forces to bring down the drug cartel and bring Letty’s killer to justice.
YAY:
- The video quality is what I would call very good. It’s not on the level of movies like The Dark Knight and Ironman, but the images are still very crisp.
- Universal’s U-Control feature is a great addition. The sections where the director Justin Lin talks about the movie make watching those scenes way more entertaining and it makes you want to actually watch the whole movie again.
- The sound is top notch, you can hear a lot of little details.
- There are thirteen special features including some behind the scenes and a gag reel. (why a movie like this would have a gag reel I’m not sure.) The best features are where they talk about the cars used in the movie.
NAY:
- The movie starts out in a very exciting way, and then it lulls into story sections that aren’t very entertaining. Does anyone watch these movies for the great storytelling? No, people watch this for the action and the cars.
- The acting and dialogue is pretty terrible, but what do you expect from a Fast and Furious movie
- The story is also quite retarded. If the Feds are looking for Dom then why does he keep showing up at his house and not getting caught?
- Getting the Gang Back Together, a special feature where they act like all of these actors have a million things they could be doing, but have put their acting careers on hold to make this movie, because that’s how important it is.
- The car garage is a little disappointing. I was expecting photos of the actual cars that I could look around and inside of, but instead it’s a digital depiction of the car with some stats. It only features five cars and the customize a car feature which only allows you to customize a Dodge Charger with very few options. You can find much better customization and better looking models of cars in the latest Need For Speed type video games.
The story is passable, the sequences featuring the cars are by far the best. If you’ve seen all the other movies in the series and need to have this than you already probably own it. If you’re a general action movie fan I’d recommend giving it a rent, you can watch it a couple times and check out all the special features in a standard rental period. If you saw this and didn’t hate it check out Tokyo Drift, it has a better story and is a better looking Blu-Ray release.
