Dang.

There’s a brand new event in town, and it doesn’t seem to have a single secret invader or civil warrior in sight.  Recently it was announced that Marvel’s Dark Reign would come to a conclusion with the beginning of Siege, a four issue miniseries that would appear to feature the return of the Avengers’ Holy Trinity of Captain America, Iron Man, and Thor.  Seemingly this series will deal with the heroes of the Marvel Universe finally stepping up and taking it to Norman Osborn, who has taken his evil administration a bit too far.

Ever since Norman Osborn became the leader of H.A.M.M.E.R., his own personal version of Nick Fury’s S.H.I.E.L.D., he has been ruining the lives of the Avengers, the X-Men, and most definitely Spider-Man.  However, it would appear the event mostly focuses on the deal Osborn made with Loki, and just how perturbed Thor happens to be in response to that.  Thus, it would seem he “gets the band back together” for the sake of taking down the Cabal of supervillains and righting the wrongs that have apparently been happening since before the Civil War.

I’ve been pretty pleased with the direction Marvel has been taking as a whole.  At the very least I’m more pleased with Marvel than with DC lately.  Also, given that I’ve been reading Thor since the new run began, I was excited to hear that he would be the center of the next big situation the heroes would find themselves within.  Since Thor returned it has been my most anticipated series despite how long it takes to see every next issue.  One of the biggest things people have been anticipating is also the return of Steve Rogers.  Many people are already well away that the character is being brought back in, but what is now anticipated is how he’s going to deal with Iron Man since their Civil War falling out.  Could this be the motivation to get Tony to stop being such a tool?  Let’s just hope so.

Sure, I get why people are irritated with Marvel.  Big events are the new thing, and despite my disagreements with Joe Quesada, he’s right: Marvel will continue to do big event books as long as the fans keep buying them.  And what has happened?  The fans have kept buying them.  Myself included.  So if you want to change the system, resist this book.  I mean, after all, it’s only four issues.  Four issues promising a massively huge fight for the well-being of Asgard wherein Thor will undoubtedly ruin some faces.  But no, you go and pass it by.  I’ll be over here watching you sweat as you look at it on the shelves.  Good luck, fans.
