From the hilarious and often demented mind of Matt Walsh comes a brand new Spike TV original series called Players. Walsh created the series and stars alongside Ian Roberts, friend and co-founder of the improv comedy troupe The Upright Citizens Brigade. The premise of the show follows two very different brothers (Walsh and Roberts) as they try to run a successful sports bar. This proves to be difficult due in part to their “night and day” personalities and in part to their useless staff.
The most interesting aspect of the show is that all of the speaking lines were improvised by the actors. A very tight plot structure was developed for each episode and then the rest was left up to the performances. This was very familiar territory for mostly everyone involved and from the clips that have been posted online it seems to have payed off. The lack of scripted dialogue really keeps things feeling fresh and it gives the characters an organic quality
There will be a slew of great guest stars including UCB co-founder Matt Besser, Andy Daly, Horatio Sans and many more. Check out the premiere episode tomorrow March 2nd, 2010 on Spike.
