Have you ever wanted to flip through a magazine and see a cartoon character you grew up with posing in a nightgown? Well now is your chance. Marge Simpson, longtime yellow woman with blue hair, will appear in Playboy. She won’t be appearing naked, but she will, in fact, be in a nightgown. Apparently. The only question remaining now would be… why?
For me this is pretty awkward. I’ve been watching The Simpsons since I was a little kid. I remember when Marge Simpson, as a character, would have been the last person likely to appear in a magazine like Playboy. Although it could be worse; it could be Penthouse we’re talking about here. But my big fear is that this is the indication that The Simpsons is just out of ideas. Sure, we’ve known that for a few years now, but this could be the last nail in the coffin. On the other hand, this could be really, really sexy.
Just kidding.
Looking past the action figures, shirts, dolls, mugs, coasters, posters, and so much more merchandise, it becomes pretty apparent that they’re doing everything they can to keep the show vibrant. Unfortunately the show has been on for over twenty years and it’s become really repetitive. The Playboy issue seems to be just another mode to push the dinosaur that is The Simpsons. It hurts like hell, because I love this animated family unlike any other. But that could be the problem: this is like seeing your actual mother pose for Playboy. It isn’t necessary. But what does Homer think about this?
