Lion-OH DAMN

Aw yeah, it’s the Thundercats, ho!  Finally, after a long period of just sitting around, the Thundercats franchise returns next year with a new show on Cartoon Network.  No, I haven’t fallen prey to delusions that the cartoon will look half as good as the first promo image, but I will in fact allow myself to become blissfully unaware of how bad it could potentially be.  I will remain in the middle, assuming it’ll be a fun cartoon I’ll watch sometimes.  But I want this to be badass so much, you have no idea.  I’m picturing so many potentially good things.  Mainly the idea of the first season ending on a colossal sword fight between Lion-O and Mumm-Ra.  Something involving incredible magic and outstanding combat wherein not even sight beyond sights can help the young leader.

My biggest fear is Snarf.  God, how bad could Snarf really be made?  My estimate is really bad.  Unless they get Gilbert Gottfried.  Then I’d be totally cool with everything.  That’s really the primary issue with this cartoon: apart from needing to have good animation that looks nothing like that Transformers cartoon they did, they need the right voice actors.  You need gruff and deep for Panthro.  You need young and commanding for Lion-O.  You need sprightly and energetic for Wily Kit and Wily Kat.  A lot has to go into this if they want this franchise to live again.  And why wouldn’t they?  It’s a great franchise with a great story, just waiting for new life to be breathed back into it.  The characters were presented a little rigidly in the past but they were written to be characters that could easily be turned into amazing and dynamic heroes and villains.

This is good Thundercats news following the terrible Thundercats news from last week of how Stephen Perry, former writer for the show from the 80s was found to have been murdered in a pretty grizzly fashion.  I mean, we might as well get some good news going on after hearing the terror of that story, but it seems like some pretty bad coincidental promotion for the cartoon.  Let’s just keep both bits of news separate and appreciate the new cartoon for when it starts.  Which I’ll be calmly looking forward to.
