Let’s Go Back to 2029

I’ve been a big fan of Terminator for a long time. I’ve seen everything that has to do with it other than the second season of The Sarah Connor Chronicles (I’m working on it). Can Zack Whedon’s storyline in the Terminator universe satisfy longtime fans of the franchise? There may be some spoilers.

This 3-part series is the story of Kyle Reese before he goes back in time to defend Sarah Connor from the cyborg trying to kill her (it’s essentially a prequel to Terminator). So far in this first issue it deals with him and two other members of the resistance, Ben and Paige.

YAY :

  • In the art Kyle Reese looks more like Michael Biehn, who played him in the movies, than he does anyone else. (picture at the bottom for comparison purposes)
  • Ben mentions that Reese having a picture of John Connor’s mom is weird. Movie tie-in!
  • The art isn’t superb stuff, but it helps the story along and I like the way it’s set-up on certain pages.  There’s an example of this at the bottom of this review.
  • Ben and Paige are interesting characters. I actually remembered their names after only reading this issue once and making no special effort to remember them.

NAY :

  • This is a VERY nitpicky Nay, but remember how I mentioned Kyle was looking at a picture of Sarah Connor? The picture looks like her in T1 with the blonde hair, but isn’t she in a jeep in Mexico wearing a bandanna in the scene of the movie where the picture is taken? I expected it to look exactly like that and it didn’t.

Terminator 2029 only has two issues left, but they definitely have the potential to be good.  I’d definitely recommend giving this a look and think that no self-respecting Terminator fan should pass it up.

Here’s the page/picture I mentioned…
