Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs is an animated movie made by Sony Pictures Animation that is based on the children’s book by Judi Barrett. It’s the story of Flint Lockwood, a fledgling inventor, and his sardine eating hometown. Flint is desperate to invent something that the townspeople will finally like and respect him for. This leads to him inventing a machine that turns water into food, you’ll have to watch it to find out the rest.
YAY:
- Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs (CWaCoM) was a lot funnier than I expected it to be. Even though it has some silly moments and an annoying character or two it was humorous in a cute way.
- 3D! This isn’t that great of a 3D presentation, but 3D really does make everything better. CWaCoM didn’t have 3D visuals that popped out of the screen, but I feel like it enhanced the animation.
NAY:
- Baby Brent was quite the annoying character. I didn’t initially realize he was voiced by Andy Samberg, but when I did I couldn’t help but imagine him making stupid faces whenever his character spoke.
- I suffered a 3D let down. Yeah, so I included 3D as a ‘Yay’, but I was expecting so much more from CWaCoM. I had just seen The Final Destination the week before and expected the 3D to be WAY better in a fully-animated movie.
- What just happened to that guy’s shorts? This won’t make sense if you haven’t seen it, but when you do you’ll know.
CWaCoM is a good family movie or a good pick to make if you’re bored and have seen everything else that’s out. If not I’d recommend waiting for it on DVD/Blu-Ray. The 3D element doesn’t add enough to justify seeing this in theaters. And if you must see it in theaters catch a matinee. Oh and just to be specific, the theater I saw this at has Real D 3D.
