Flying Lotus is a laptop musician in a style which I would liken most to instrumental hip-hop. Cosmogramma is his third full-length album and second for Warp. It was released May 4th.
YAY :
- I feel like at times this album is searching for an identity, then I realize this is instrumental hip-hop for the future. I think when Flying Lotus made this album he was literally trying to make an album that was supposed to be listened to in space.
- Let me just reiterate/clarify my last point somewhat, this album is a musical journey. There are a lot of great songs on this album and they flow into each so you when it’s over you feel like you just went on a trip.
NAY :
- It could be a little too weird for a lot of people. If it’s too out there for you, I can understand that.
I wanted to keep this one short and sweet. When I first listened to this album I was a little shocked by how crazily the first song began, but as the album progressed I got into it a lot more. This was a repeat listen album for me. One you definitely want to listen to with headphones on. I loved it. It’s not available on Lala, but if you are interested in hearing it you can stream it on Flying Lotus’ Myspace page right now.
