Strong Punch to the Cineplexus – Elite Squad: The Enemy Within, Immortals, J Edgar, Jack and Jill, & Melancholia

This week we have some foreign police, Greeks, a presidential biopic, a terrible terrible thing, and a drama by a director a lot of people hate.

It’s a holiday! I have the day off! Not from Never Not a Nerd, but from my day job.

Elite Squad: The Enemy Within

An action movie about police and gangs in Brazil. This was actually a limited release, unlike what we say on the Never Not a Nerd Show. I was misinformed. Honestly, Rotten Tomatoes F**KED us man! I should have relied on my instincts. No released-the-previous-year foreign films get wide releases in the United States. Except maybe Hero.

Theseus! I’m not even really sure what the deal with this movie is. It’s some Greek myth stuff. Zeus’ lack of a beard is very very upsetting. Also, that scene where Theseus says “close the gates and prepare for war!” He says it to the other guy like the guy is mentally challenged. That scene bugs me. This movie was a bang.

J. Edgar

Leonardo DiCaprio rules. A lot of people don’t like him, but why? He rules, he’s made a lot of awesome stuff. Do people hate him because of Titanic? Anyway, Leonardo DiCaprio is an amazing actor, and I’m sure he nails this role. This was also directed by Clint Eastwood, and he’s awesome too.

Jack and Jill

This is here as a warning. DO NOT SEE THIS MOVIE!! Adam Sandler hasn’t done anything good since Punch Drunk Love. Maybe you don’t agree with me, but I really liked that one. I watched Happy Gilmore not that long ago to see if it was still funny, or I just thought it was because I was young and dumb. But, it held up. Jack and Jill is DOA.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Lars von Trier film.  Isn’t there a whole movie he recorded on a stage with chalk drawn on it? Anyway, I don’t think I’ve ever seen one, and I’m not a big Kirsten Dunst fan. But even though I married J Edgar this week, Melancholia intrigues me more. I can’t wait to see this.

Pick of the Week : Like I said, I married J Edgar this week, but like I also said, Melancholia intrigues me more. I have to go with Melancholia.
