Dr. Wily Sucks, Again

Posted by Jamie ConcepcionJamie Concepcion On April - 5 - 2010

Mega Man 10 is a download only game from Capcom for the Wii, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3.  In the story Dr. Wily unleashes a virus called ‘Roboenza” (this probably came from the extreme Japanese fear of swine flu) that affects all robots and makes them sick. Mega Man or Proto Man need to traverse 8 levels and defeat as many boss robots to get to the Dr. Wily stages to acquire the cure to roboenza.

YAY :

  • The biggest change in Mega Man 10 is the addition of Easy Mode.  It will block spikes in certain areas for you and put floating platforms over ‘death-gaps’. It will also take away a few enemies.  It’s definitely a welcome change for someone like me who enjoys the challenge of the game, but sometimes just wants to finish a level without memorizing every detail.
  • The music is fantastic. Yeah, it’s old school, but that’s what is so awesome about it. I’ve had some of the beats stuck in my head for days now.

NAY :

  • Proto Man is almost too weak to be a viable option. It’s awesome that this time he’s free and not paid DLC like he was in Mega Man 9 though.
  • Maybe it was because he was the first of the eight bosses I faced, so I only had the blaster at the time, but I feel like Blade Man was the only boss where I had to really learn what he was doing and how to dodge his attacks to beat him.

There you have it. Mega Man is a fun, but short downloadable title. Easy mode is definitely a welcome change, but I can see hardcore Mega Man fans being upset by its inclusion. If you’re going to get it and you have a Wii, get it on the Wii. You get to hold the controller sideways and use two horizontal buttons just as the Nintendo gods wanted it. You won’t get any achievements or trophies, but there are more important things, like nostalgia.
