Demos Be Damned?
I was thinking about doing demo impressions as a feature here. I’m still not quite sure if that’s a good idea or not, but more content shouldn’t be a bad thing. Before I do test the waters with this feature I thought I should post this little personal experience.
I like game demos, they’re usually a perfect little sample that serves it’s purpose of building excitement for the game’s release. I have been fooled by game demos before though and because of that am much more skeptical now. The most memorable example for me was Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. I loved that demo. I downloaded it on both the Playstation 3 and the Xbox 360 and played it multiple times on each console. Then the game released. I didn’t think it was a total waste, don’t get me wrong, the story was fantastic and the gameplay was good overall. There were just so many issues that took away from The Force Unleashed and made it much less than the game I had expected it to be. Now I can’t allow myself to anticipate a game as much as I would have before. I don’t need that kind of disappointment again.
The image in this post is a perfect example of a scene in the game that was largely flawed. Some of the analog stick commands are wrong in that scene.
