Deadpool Is A Pretty Popular Guy

All right.  For anyone who doesn’t know, there will soon be a third ongoing series of Deadpool being released by Marvel.  Don’t get me wrong: I love me some crazy mercenary action.  Watching Deadpool slice up clowns and zombies, and sometimes clown-zombies is a great way to pass the time.  But to give him three ongoing titles simultaneously seems a bit too much like they’re trying to flood the market with their fan-favorite.  Remember when that was Wolverine?  Oh wait.  It still is.

The new series, entitled Deadpool Team-Up, would seem to pair Deadpool with the all-stars of the Marvel Universe just to see what ensues.  Unfortunately, looking at things in context, it would appear that this could be a dangerous move.  Yes, people love Deadpool, and for good reason.  He’s a funny character.  The only problem is that now Marvel knows just how much the fans like him, and are going to take the ball and run with it… for miles past the end zone.  Besides, Deadpool: Merc with a Mouth has gotten off to a relatively slow start, despite being filled with dinosaurs and zombies and jungle adventure.

You can only stretch some characters so thin before they snap.  Maybe that’s why Marvel does this with Wolverine and Deadpool: choose the characters with the healing factors because they can survive it.  I’m going to remain optimistic about this new series because it’s always fun to see Deadpool interact with other heroes.  With any luck they’ll see this as their limit and try not to push it any further.  Of course, as I speak they’re probably working on a Baby Deadpool series.  Don’t do it Marvel.  Think of the children.
