David Cross vs. Pitchfork

Posted by Jamie ConcepcionJamie Concepcion On May - 21 - 2010

David Cross, if you didn’t know, is a comedian. A very funny comedian. Pitchfork.com (formerly Pitchforkmedia.com) is a music news/review site. I’m guessing David Cross doesn’t like Pitchfork that much, but still thinks it’s funny to mess with them. Why do I think that? Check out some of Cross’ quotes below.

This is in a feature he wrote about music to listen to while reading Pitchfork reviews.

…while skimming through some of the overwrought reviews on Pitchforkmedia.com

And then here is something he said in an interview that they posted earlier today.

Pitchfork: Do you ever get anything out of album reviews?

DC: Not really. Unless there’s a reference, like, “If you like Cat Power’s later stuff, it’s sort of like that.” Then I’ll check it out. A verbose, prosaic review which mentions whistling winds and the timeless feeling of jade doesn’t mean anything to me; I don’t need a novella telling me about how an album is like a fine meal.

Now, I don’t dislike Pitchfork myself, but that last quote must have been a burn (for the second time) against the way the site as a whole reviews albums.

If you want to read the whole interview posted today or the feature where he basically makes fun of their reviews, you can read them here and here.
