Another Reason Mass Effect 2 Should be Great

Posted by Jamie Concepcion On August - 18 - 2009

BioWare revealed another possible crew member for Commander Shepard’s journey in the upcoming game Mass Effect 2.  His name is Grunt, and he is a Krogan Merc, just like Wrex from the first game.  With two possible squad members revealed so far, one being an assassin and the other a merc, it sounds like you could possibly be leading a rag-tag bunch of bad-asses.

This Could Be Good, Maybe Not

little-big-planet

Another tidbit of Little Big Planet news.  Media Molecule has decided to add water into the game.  Prepare yourself for a shit-ton of water levels.  This could be a good test though, because if someone can make a good water level then maybe they deserve a job as a game designer.

WAIT!!

Posted by Jamie Concepcion On August - 18 - 2009

In case you were thinking about purchasing  one of the two best games of 2008, Little Big Planet or Fallout 3, you should wait.  Fallout 3′s Game of the Year edition is releasing October 13th.  It will include all five of the downloadable content packs for $60.  That’s a $110 value for $60.  One of the best games of 2008 is becoming one of the best values of 2009.

A Little Big Planet Game of the Year edition was just recently announced.  It will include 18 user-created levels hand picked by Media Molecule.  Along with that you will get the Metal Gear Solid Level Pack, Metal Gear Solid Costumes, Monster Costumes, Monster Pack, History Costumes, History Pack, and Animal Costumes.  That’s an $89 value for $60.  Also, a limited number of copies will contain vouchers for the upcoming ModNation Racers beta.  It releases September 8th, so the wait won’t be too much longer.

I Try, and I Try, and I Try

trialsHDBOX

A few weeks ago, before Xbox Live’s “Summer of Arcade” started I was rather sure of the games I wanted out of the bunch.  I was definitely going to get ‘Splosion Man, Turtles in Time, and Shadow Complex.  I was planning on getting Marvel vs. Capcom 2 on the PS3 and I had no interest in Trials HD.  My plan has changed a bit as the “Summer of Arcade” has progressed.  I didn’t end up getting ‘Splosion Man, I got Turtles in Time and was a little disappointed by it, and Shadow Complex comes out this coming Wednesday.   The other change in my plan was my status on Trials HD. I didn’t really care about a motorcycle tricks game. I thought it looked like a mix between Pain and Excite Bike (I don’t know why).  But, then a magical thing happened, I tried the trial version of Trials HD.  I thought it was easy to pick up and really fun.  Within five minutes of riding the available tracks in the trial I was on Amazon.com buying an unlock code.

The Score so Far

best games of 09 so far article picture

I would consider the August 25th release of Batman: Arkham Asylum as kicking off the Fall/ Holiday gaming season.  Some football/sports game fans might even consider that season to have begun yesterday with the release of Madden 10.  Whichever one of those groups you are in, it’s either here or quickly approaching.  This is an alphabetical list of the 10 best games that have been released so far in 2009 (Madden 10 excluded) and why we think they’re the best. There’s also a little section at the bottom for games that released in 2009 that you should avoid.

Shell Shocked

TMNT_Turtles_in_time_reshelled

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT) are near and dear to the hearts of so many people in my age group.  When I was a kid I had everything branded TMNT, from backpacks to bedsheets. It should come as no surprise that a few TMNT video games were made. Many people consider the best Turtles game made to be TMNT IV: Turtles in Time for the Arcade, which was later ported to the Super Nintendo Entertainment System.  Recently Ubisoft Singapore took this classic co-op beat-em-up and gave it a fresh new look.  It was released on Xbox Live as TMNT: Turtles in Time Re-shelled. Should you shell out the cash for a fresh look? Or should you just dust off the old SNES?

It’s Party Time

Xbox 360 users were hit with a mandatory update to live today.  It’s an upgrade for the New Xbox experience and most likely why Live was down for a night about a month ago.  So, what’s new about it?

Let Them Eat Cake

fat-princess

People usually fear what they don’t know.  Why would I bring that up now? Well, over a year ago when Fat Princess was announced many feminists groups flipped out about a game being called Fat Princess.  No one really knew much about the game; all they said at the time was you would have to rescue your princess from another castle while holding that castle’s princess captive.   If you fed the princess you had captive a piece of cake she would get bigger and thus harder to carry.  The same thing would hold true for your princess in their castle.  These groups flipped over that, a simple game mechanic.  Had they played the game? No, it was over a year until the game would be released.  This was the Mass Effect sex scene fiasco all over again.

Demo Impressions – Invisible Predator

The demo for Batman Arkham Asylum was released this Thursday on the PSN. What’s the verdict?

I really like how they’re emphasizing that Batman is the world’s greatest detective. That isn’t talked about much in any other Batman games or the movies.

Demos Be Damned?

I was thinking about doing demo impressions as a feature here.  I’m still not quite sure if that’s a good idea or not, but more content shouldn’t be a bad thing.  Before I do test the waters with this feature I thought I should post this little personal experience.
