Portlandia – Mixology
Last Friday brought the season premiere of Portlandia’s second season. After a critically acclaimed first season, which resulted in it making a lot of year-end top 10 lists, the expectations are a lot higher than they were a season ago. Here’s a bit by bit breakdown of the episode.
It’s Impossible to Like These Characters
Now that I know impossible is what they do best I don’t feel so bad about the title.
Alphas is a new show on SyFy about a team of people that use abilities they have (mind control, heightened senses, increased adrenaline) to look into and solve crimes. I’m pretty sure they didn’t make it very clear what branch of the government, if any, they work for. They either didn’t, or I was too busy wondering how many episodes this show would last.
Neighbors From Hell – “SNORFINDESDRILLSALGOHO!”
Neighbors From Hell is a new TBS show that premiered Monday night at 10PM. Ya know, the time slot for adult themed cartoons. The show was produced and written by Pam Brady. You might be wondering who Pam Brady is. Well, she was a producer on South Park for four seasons, as well as co-writing South Park: Bigger, Longer, & Uncut and Team America: World Police. Her resume is quite impressive.
I’ll Pop On That
American Pickers is a new show that airs at 9 PM Monday nights on History. It stars Mike Wolfe, a tall & lanky man with back problems, and Frank Fritz, his shorter, rounder partner. Together, they run a business based out of LeClaire, Iowa called Antique Archaeology. They provide antiques to many different markets, including prop houses, restaurants (with “old stuff” on the walls), and a close knit group of pickers they have established ties with. They’re an Abbot & Costello-esque duo, cracking jokes and playing off one another throughout their (mis)adventures, often heard using the catchphrase “I’ll Pop”. Popping, which is heard numerous times each episode, generally means purchasing, but “re-pop” has been used as a way to indicate a reproduction.
