Posted by Jamie Concepcion On June - 16 - 2010

Two weeks ago I mentioned that Mezco were going to be making DC Mez-Itz and the first two would be Batman and The Joker, exclusive to San Diego Comic Con. Well, they’ve decided to allow non-attendees to pre-order them online. Get them here while you still can.

Check below for an image of a couple Kick-Ass Mez-Itz that are SDCC ‘exclusives’

Batman Kubricks are Coming

Posted by Jamie Concepcion On June - 14 - 2010

They’re calling this the DC 75th Anniversary Kubrick set, but let’s be honest, it’s really just Batman characters with Superman thrown in. These will be available sometime around December/January but are available for pre-order now. The cheapest place I could find them was here.

  • Batman (comics-style)
  • Superman (Superman Returns movie)
  • Batgirl (animated-style)
  • The Joker (The Dark Knight movie)
  • Batman (animated-style)
  • Batman (The Dark Knight movie)
  • Batman (Batman movie 1989)
  • Robin (animated-style)
  • Catwoman (Batman Returns movie)
  • Harley Quinn (animated-style)

Heavy Statue – Team Fortress 2

Posted by Jamie Concepcion On June - 10 - 2010

A company called Gaming Heads have manufactured and are accepting pre-orders on 12″ statues of Heavy(both blue and red) from Team Fortress 2 right now.  They’re a little steep in price, with the standard edition going for $230 and the exclusive edition(it has an extra head and the bullets look like they’re feeding into the gun) going for $245, but they look really well made.  You can check out a lot more images and pre-order them here.

One of the Creepier Recent Figures

Posted by Jamie Concepcion On June - 9 - 2010

I like these figures, they’re very nice and well done. This one could be a bit of a stretch though. Mezco hasn’t shied away from doing horror Mez-Itz (they have done Freddy Krueger, Wolfman, a zombie, and Jason Voorhess), but a vinyl figure of a creepy puppet that tells you you have to cut off your own arm or something to survive sitting on your shelf is a little different.  These are going to be released in October(wow, really?) and can be pre-ordered here.

80′s Renaissance – Voltron

Posted by Jamie Concepcion On June - 8 - 2010

Voltron is coming back. The rights holders, World Events Productions & Classic Media have announced a deal with Mattel and Nickelodeon to produce both  a show and a new toy line.

The show will be called Voltron Force and NickToons will air 26 half-hour episodes sometime next year.

After the Thundercats news last week I wonder if a new He-Man show is on its way. Maybe it is and I just don’t know.

You can stream the first two seasons of Voltron in their entirety (104 episodes) via Netflix.

Yes I Plan to Own the Scott Pilgrim Plushies

Posted by Dillon St. Jean On June - 4 - 2010

Yes I fully intend to get these.  Yes I’m totally ashamed of myself.  Yes I will get them anyway.

Coming somewhere between July and August are the Scott Pilgrim plush figures, which I have to say look pretty nice.  I mean, they could have been worse.  The only problem I find is that I will now get swept into wanting to get all of the Scott Pilgrim merchandise that comes out.  And following that, the only problem is that with a franchise like Scott Pilgrim, some God-forsaken store chain will grab a hold of it and “Nightmare Before Christmas” the life out of it until everyone and their whorish mother has something with Scott Pilgrim on it.

In the Best Toy News of the Day – Mez-Itz

Posted by Jamie Concepcion On June - 2 - 2010

Mezco Toyz (they love their z’s) have just announced a deal with Warner Bros. Consumer Products to make DC Comics toys. But, not just any kind of toys, Mezco’s vinyl Mez-Itz figures. I’d been hoping DC would get a deal done with Hasbro to get some Mighty Muggs made, but since Hasbro had made Marvel Mighty Muggs, and they also seem to have abandoned all Mighty Muggs fans,  I don’t think anyone expected that to happen.  Now that wish has come true in a different way and similar vinyl figures of beloved DC characters are going to be made.

The first two characters are going to be Batman and The Joker. They will be revealed at San Diego Comic Con, which is also when the next wave will be announced.

Check below the cut for some picture examples of previous and upcoming vinyl Mez-Itz figures. You can find the rest and purchase them here.

Jabba’s Palace Bookends

Posted by Jamie Concepcion On May - 8 - 2010

I couldn’t think of anything clever for the title and I wanted to get straight to the point. In December these awesomely detailed bookends featuring a scene from Jabba’s Palace in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi where Leia, in disguise,  attempts to rescue Han Solo while he is frozen in carbonite will become available to the public. They’re going to retail for $249, but I found them here for $199 if you pre-order by May 31st.  They’re limited edition and hand numbered. I want to believe that the price will deter enough people so that you wouldn’t need to buy right away, but these are getting a decent amount of buzz, and they look awesome, so who knows. Check below the cut for another picture of them doing what they’re supposed to do.

Lantern Rings…That Light Up

Posted by Jamie Concepcion On May - 5 - 2010

During the past few months as part of DC’s Blackest Night and now their Brightest Day series, certain issues of tie-ins came with free lantern rings. Well, this July DC Direct is releasing the full set of nine rings with a displayable ‘window-box’. All for the seemingly steep price of $59.99. It’s cool that the new ones light up, but a lot of people have identical looking rings that they got for free. It also says all the rings are adjustable size. I have the free black lantern ring and it has a slit at the back, I really hope that’s not what they mean.

You can find more info here.
