Action Movie Fans Rejoice

Posted by Jamie Concepcion On April - 14 - 2010

The first(as far as I know) film festival for action films starts tomorrow and runs through Sunday in Asheville, North Carolina. Some of the movies that will be shown include the awesome looking Harry Brown, Centurion, Raging Phoenix, Mandrill, District 13: Ultimatum, 14 Blades, and The Good, The Bad, The Weird. Also, on Sunday Chuck Norris will be there to receive a lifetime achievement award. If I could afford to send my father to this I definitely would. Check below the cut for the official press statement, ActionFest trailer, and trailers for the movies I mentioned above.

Oh God It’s the Yogi Bear Movie

Posted by Dillon St. Jean On March - 31 - 2010

Ugh.  Yogi Bear, the CGI version.  Much like my horror at the first revealed Smurfs image, Yogi Bear will now haunt my dreams forever.  Look at his mouth.  He’s got the same type of blackened lips and gums that a real bear would have.  And for some reason he has this really odd look on his face.  Almost like he’s going to do something illegal.  To you.  Late at night, under the cover of darkness.  He looks like the type of bear that might have a few drinks and then become Yogi Badtouch.

There’s Hope For Cap After All

Posted by Jamie Concepcion On March - 22 - 2010

The internet was buzzing last week with talk that Channing Tatum (excuse me, i just threw up in my mouth a little) was offered the role of Captain America. NOOO!! Well, apparently either the people with the casting power got wise, or Tatum actually turned it down (THANK GOD!).

Now Chris Evans has accepted the role of Captain America for a reported four movies, three solo Captain America and one with The Avengers. He might not be the best guy for the job, but this is amazing news in comparison to the alternative. Jump for joy kids.

Scott Pilgrim’s Finest News Updates

Posted by Dillon St. Jean On March - 20 - 2010

The beginning of the end begins and ends here where the end becomes the beginning.  Again.

Oh my God, I can’t wait for volume six of Scott Pilgrim.  Scott Pilgrim’s Finest Hour was revealed yesterday as the final book in the series, wherein we’ll mainly be expecting Scott to finally take on Gideon in the final ultimate battle of supreme finality until one of them is a dead deceased corpse.  We’re apparently looking at a July 20th, 2010 release, which I’m not sure if I can sit patiently for.  Too much needs to happen, and I’m way too excited.  Will Scott wind up with Ramona?  Is Stephen Stills going to stop being a dick?  And when is Young Neil finally going to straighten up and deal with his problems?

Call Me Pleasantly Surprised – Predators

Posted by Jamie Concepcion On March - 13 - 2010

Tonight at SXSW Robert Rodriguez debuted some footage from Predators, the Nimród Antal directed /Robert Rodriguez produced reimagining of the origin of the Predator series.  After hearing that Adrien Brody and Topher Grace were cast I was very disappointed, but this actually looks like it could be an interesting movie.  Check it out under the cut.

Predators will be coming out July 9th.

Smurfity Smurfing Smurfnuggets

Posted by Dillon St. Jean On February - 2 - 2010

Good Lord… he’s in three dimensions.  THREE OF THEM.

UGO has dredged up the first image of a Smurf from the upcoming (whenever that refers to) Smurfs movie.  And I couldn’t be more Smurfy about it.  I guess it’s just weird to see the clothing look like actual fabric, even kind of dirty and with seams.  But considering there’s not much else to talk about beyond the fact that there’s a Smurf of indeterminate color in this image, I suppose we can talk about other things

A Drunk Man Speculates

Posted by Jamie Concepcion On January - 22 - 2010

Mark Millar, creator of Wanted, Kick-Ass, and the yet to be released Nemesis is already talking about a Nemesis movie. On his website MillarWorld.tv message boards he drunkenly says he has been talking to a director that threw out the names Leonardo DiCaprio and Daniel Day-Lewis as potential stars. The unnamed director is supposedly friends with one of the mentioned actors.

Is Channing Tatum For Real?

Posted by Jamie Concepcion On January - 20 - 2010

“oh yeah and last night i saw a special about how Channing Tatum started off as a stripper. He should lay off real movies and make Strip It Up 6.” – Tim

The above is a direct-quote taken from someone named Tim commenting on Andrew’s review of G.I. Joe. That’s a funny joke isn’t it?

Well, it’s not a joke anymore. Less than 6 months after saying it, Tim’s jokingly said wish is coming true because Channing Tatum has publicly said he wants to make a stripper movie. As Tim said Tatum was a stripper before some asshole somewhere decided to let him try to ‘act’.

“It needs to be a crazy film and I also think it’s possible to do a cute, romantic movie” – Channing Tatum

I don’t know what kind of stuff this guy is on, but it must be FANTASTIC.

Are women really into this idea? Would it be the male stripper version of Pretty Woman?

Abitah iz Vinning!

Well, no matter how pissed off ultra-conservatives (the ‘message’) or Italian mothers (its Italian rating) get about Avatar it seems to still be raking in the dough.  After this weekends box-office take, the worldwide totals for Avatar are now at 1.64 Billion dollars, which is only 200 million behind the worldwide record currently held by Titanic at 1.84 Billion.  Avatar has also just beaten the record held by The Dark Knight for fastest to 500 Million domestic by doing it in 32 days, 13 days faster than The Dark Knight.

The Best News of 2010…So Far

Posted by Andrew Witts On January - 12 - 2010

Somehow this is the sort of proof that I needed to show that God exists and he is an all-powerful fanboy. Spider-Man 4 has been completely canceled as of today after official word of the film being put on hold earlier this week. Sony Pictures and series director Sam Raimi have been in discussions for the fourth, and possible fifth film for what seems like an eternity. So what is Sony going to do with the record breaking web slinger? It’s not as bad as it seems….
