Sci-Friday – Jennifer Government

Posted by Jamie Concepcion On March - 5 - 2010

This interesting novel by Max Barry takes place in a time that I could see existing sometime in the future where corporations literally rule the world and own their employees. Kids go to schools named after products not people. And marketing is even more cutthroat than today’s practices. I read it kind of a while ago, but I remember it being pretty good and fast paced.  Give it a look.

Caprica - all new episode tonight called Know Thy Enemy on SyFy at 9PM EST. Sneak peek of the episode below the cut.

Sci-Friday – Starship Troopers

Posted by Jamie Concepcion On February - 26 - 2010

This is one of those movies you probably either love for its campiness, or hate for the same reason.  The cast is full of actors that I wouldn’t want to watch in anything else (except for Michael Ironside and Neil Patrick Harris). Released in 1997, it’s the last movie Paul Verhoeven made that I would watch again or have even seen more than once. It is far from his best movie though, he also directed Total Recall and Robocop.  And no, I didn’t purposely pick a movie he directed two weeks in a row.

Sci-Friday – Total Recall

Posted by Jamie Concepcion On February - 19 - 2010

In this 1990 film Arnold Schwarzenegger plays a normal man having strange dreams about being on Mars with a mystery woman.  He has a beautiful wife and a boring job, but something just doesn’t seem right. He goes to a Recall facility to get a memory imprint and then things start to get crazy. There’s a trailer under the cut, but just so you’re aware, it’s pretty spoiler-riffic

Sci-Friday – Smallville

Posted by Jamie Concepcion On February - 5 - 2010

Smallville – I’ve personally never seen Smallville, so i can’t really vouch for whether it’s a good show or not.  Apparently Dillon hates it. However, tonight at 8 will be the two hour episode Absolute Justice written by DC comics own Geoff Johns. Again it airs at 8PM EST tonight on the CW.

Caprica -  The third episode of the Battlestar Galactica prequel airs tonight at 9PM EST on SyFy.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars – The episode Voyage of Temptation airs tonight at 9PM EST on Cartoon Network. It involves Obi Wan encountering a woman he had a romantic past with. I remember them talking about this episode during the Star Wars panel at ComicCon.

Mighty Boosh – Yeah, this is a Brit comedy show, but this episode has a talking gorilla. It’s on Cartoon Network at 1AM EST.

Sci-Friday – Blade Runner

Posted by Jamie Concepcion On January - 29 - 2010

I’m kind of bummed I didn’t get to this earlier, because tonight was the last episode of Dollhouse and The Clone Wars featured Mandalorians. I promise after Tuesday everything will be back to normal here.

Blade Runner, is it Ridley Scott’s best film?  Not TOO long ago, well when HD DVD still existed, the Blu-Ray final cut version was released. I sadly have to say I haven’t seen that version yet, but it’s apparently the one to see. It has no narration and a different ending.  Regardless of which version though, you should see this movie.

Sci-Friday January 22nd, 2010

Caprica, the prequel to Battlestar Galactica, has its series premiere tonight at 9PM EST on Sy Fy. I posted the latest trailer for the series under the cut, but if you just can’t wait to see it or you want to see a version that’s a few minutes longer than what will air tonight you can watch it here.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars, a show that I have learned to love over time (yeah, Asohka wasn’t a great idea, but she grows on you) is also on tonight at 9PM EST on Cartoon Network, so you might want to set your DVRs.
