I did a LOT of reading to catch up or acquaint myself with all of the series/issues below.
I very carefully select which comics you should be reading for you. You know, so you don’t have to do that work yourself. I’ve either read these issues, or parts of these stories, so I know they’re good. Here are the comics I think you should be spending money on this week.
Black Science #8 – Last issue saw Kadir becoming quite the bad-ass hero and a cliffhanger ending. If you bought this last month like I suggested you should I probably wouldn’t even have to tell you to check out issue #8.
Flash Gordon #5 - A modern retelling of the story. Flash Gordon is an irresponsible rich kid that gets caught up in stopping an invasion of Earth and then ends up on the run with Dr Zarkhov and Dale Arden from Ming the Merciless as they try to find a way home. If you like the classic Flash Gordon you’ll love this.
Low #2 – This issue takes place 10 years after the kidnapping of the daughters, with their mother holding on to her optimism and her older son being a bit of an asshole. It’s still very good and well recommended.
Rai #4 - The art. Holy shit, the art. So much detail to every single panel. This must take months to finish one issue. The conspiracy story is very intriguing too.
Saga #22 – This is probably the best series out right now. It’s no surprise it’s won the Eisner for Best Continuing Series two years in a row. I love Saga. I giggled the first time I saw Hazel standing on her own. Something has to be very good to mean something to you like that.
Sundowners #1 - Great new series about a group of night-time heroes (I’m hesitant to say ‘super’. Think Watchmen-like) in a support group together. Are they crazy? Or is something really going on? It’s hard to tell, but it makes for an interesting read.
