6.5 Best Moments from the 65th Emmys
The 65th Emmy awards aired last night. And was it just me, or were they funnier than usual? It also may have been by accident that they were better than I remember them ever being (aside from the sort of pointless musical interludes), but they were still pretty great.
6.5 - Stephen Colbert accepting his awards out of character. Sure, this wasn’t THAT great of a moment, but it’s so very rare to see him not as that character.
6 - Will Ferrell showing up to give the last awards wearing shorts and a t-shirt and bringing his kids onstage with him.
5 - Michael Douglas with the ‘sly’ gay jokes – “This is a two-hander, and Matt, you’re only as good as your other hand” “You really deserve half of this. So, do you want the bottom or the top? The top? I figured that.”
4 - A guy accidentally standing in frame behind NPH slowly realizing he was on camera, going deer in headlights, and attempting (and failing) to shuffle off-screen
3 - Kevin Spacey turning to the camera to speak about the current and past hosts fighting as his Emmy nominated character Francis Underwood.
2 - Tony Hale holding Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ bag and telling her what to say during her acceptance speech. Anna Chlumsky looking at her phone acting like she didn’t give a shit during the same speech. Classic Veep.
1 - Merritt Wever’s amazing speech – “Ahh, thank you, oh no, thanks so much. Umm, thank you so much. I gotta go, bye.” – It really was the best acceptance speech I think I’ve ever seen.
