Webcomic of the Week – The Superest

Posted by Dillon St. Jean On July - 30 - 2010

I feel like this week I may be cheating, but that’s only because I technically am.  The Superest, while an awesome project and a very entertaining premise, is not exactly, truly, entirely a webcomic.  In reality The Supererst is a drawing contest that took place between artists Kevin Cornell and Matthew Sutter wherein one of them would draw a rather bizarre concept for a superhero and then the other would draw a character that could, for one reason or another, defeat the previous creation.  It went on like that for quite a while, with some very interesting and peculiar ideas tossed around.  What surprised me is that before beginning my highlight of The Superest the project came to a close.  This is what happens when I don’t check things often enough.

Video of the Week!! – The Expendables

Posted by Jamie Concepcion On July - 26 - 2010

Does The Expendables look like a great movie? No. Will it probably be the funniest movie (by accident) to come out this year? It has a damn good shot.

I know I featured a trailer for this before, but this one is different, and shorter. Check it out under the cut.

The DCU Online Trailer May Be the Best Thing Ever

Posted by Dillon St. Jean On July - 25 - 2010

It really, seriously, legitimately has everything I could possibly want in a DCU MMO.  Post-apocalyptic superheroes vs. supervillains.  Just wait to be astounded by how awesome Giganta falling back into a building is.  And Black Adam proves that he’s a ridiculous badass tyrant by taking out Green Lantern and the Flash simultaneously.  And Lex fighting Superman and Wonder Woman, and Kryptonite, and the Joker’s antics, and other stuff.  It’s all really good action and looks pretty great, but God only knows what the game play will be like.  If the game actually looks anything like this trailer I’ll flip out.  Check it out on the next page.

Music Video of the Week!! – Coheed and Cambria

Posted by Dillon St. Jean On July - 23 - 2010

I was having trouble trying to think of what to do for MVotW when I realized “Hey, I can do as I please.”  So then I thought “God I love me some Coheed and Cambria.”  Then I talked with myself about the weather, and upcoming movies, and then we talked about family.  It was a nice little chat until I remembered I was writing a post for the site and needed to stop talking to myself.  Anyway, ‘Here We Are Juggernaut’ is an awesome song, and it’s even better to hear live.  Which I have.  Awesome.  You can hear it off their album ‘Year of the Black Rainbow’ which is just outstanding.

I’m Sorry I’m Just Now Getting Around to the New Tron Trailer

Posted by Dillon St. Jean On July - 23 - 2010

The new Tron: Legacy trailer was released and every trailer makes this movie look better and better until I can’t control it.  It’s crazy how good this looks.  In fact, I’d go as far as to say that this movie looks irresponsibly good.  If I don’t end up seeing this movie in an IMAX theater I am going to be furious and I might crash my bike into a wall of light out of hatred and chaos, causing a hellstorm of energy and rage.  Check out the glorious trailer on the next page.

SDCC and Young Justice

Posted by Dillon St. Jean On July - 23 - 2010

New footage of Young Justice!  Fantastic.  The team looks… yeah.  And the animation looks good!  But you know… the team is just really strange.  I love that it’s Superboy, Robin and Kid Flash.  Hell, I’d have been cool with it at that.  But then Miss Martian is there, which is welcome.  But we have the new Aqualad and we have not-Speedy and… I still don’t know how I feel about it.  It promises to be a real continuity-prober, so I’m hoping to see a lot of the DC Universe in this show, but I’m keeping reserved.  It looks like it could be pretty cool, but I’m going to be cautious.  Check out the footage on the next page.

The Fairly WHAT and the WHATNOW?

Posted by Dillon St. Jean On July - 23 - 2010

Drake Bell, what are you doing?  You are not a ten-yea-old boy with fairies.  You have no reason to be wearing all pink.  You do not have a terrible history of dentistry.  No, no, none of this adds up at all.  To think, Nickelodeon will waste money on a live action Fairly Oddparents movie (with Cosmo and Wanda played by Jason Alexander and Cheryl Hines, mind you) but they won’t give me the Hey Arnold movie wherein Arnold goes to the jungle to find his parents.  Sometimes the universe is just not at all fair.  God, I’d have taken a Pete & Pete reunion over this WAIT I ACTUALLY WANT THAT, GET ON IT NICKELODEON.  News thanks to TV Guide.

Spider-Man: Shattered Dreams

Posted by Dillon St. Jean On July - 21 - 2010

Aaaaaaaand the last dimension listed for Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions is Ultimate Spider-Man, but during his time with the symbiote.  What a load of bullshit.  Way to try having your cake and eating it too.  They wanted the intrigue of black suit Spidey along with the popularity of Ultimate Spidey.  Cheaters.  Cheaters I say!  But in honesty I don’t know that I should have expected Spider-Ham or anything similar to be the last remaining character.  They kind of had to keep things within the realm of familiarity with most fans, and while people like myself may enjoy the everyday Peter Porker joke, I can get why they’d do this.  It just seems like a wasted opportunity to do really wild versions of Spider-Man.
