Don’t worry too much about what this says, listen to Turn on the Bright Lights before it’s too late.

Video of the Week!! – Cyrus

Posted by Jamie Concepcion On May - 31 - 2010

Cyrus is a film that will be released in limited release on June 18th. It’s about a man (John C. Reilly) who is divorced and lonely, but meets a woman (Marisa Tomei) that he’s really into. There’s one problem though, her son is a really creepy weirdo.  This movie looks really funny, mostly because of John C. Reilly. Check out the trailer below the cut.

Hey, Check This Out! – Hoverboard

Posted by Jamie Concepcion On May - 30 - 2010

This video has been floating(hah!) around the internet for a few days now. It’s a replica of the hoverboard from Back to the Future II by French artist Nils Guadagnin. He shows it working over its electromagnetic platform. If only this could hold a person and roads had this system built into them. Maybe some day.

Jonah Hex – Trailer Time, Part 2

Posted by Jamie Concepcion On May - 30 - 2010

Here is the second trailer for the movie where Josh Brolin has a creepy piece of skin covering the side of his mouth and Megan Fox is doing her worst(best?) southern accent.  Why does anyone cast Megan Fox in movies? Oh yeah, so 14 year old boys will go see it.  Check out the trailer under the cut.

Music Monday – Primal Scream

Posted by Jamie Concepcion On May - 30 - 2010

Here is Saturday’s special edition of Music Monday.

Primal Scream are an odd band in that they usually change their sound up quite a bit for every album. Aside from XTRMNTR, Evil heat is my favorite album by them. It lives somewhere between hazy psych-pop, garage rock, and electronica complete with a guest appearance from Robert Plant. Check it out under the cut.

Music Monday – Mastodon

Posted by Jamie Concepcion On May - 30 - 2010

Yeah, whenever I post one the day seems to change. Here is Friday’s edition of Music Monday.

I really wanted to choose something that was metal. So I decided to go with The Sword…Wow, sorry The Sword, I just remembered Mastodon existed and they win.  Their latest album Crack the Skye was in our favorites of 2009, so let’s go with their previous album Blood Mountain. It’s a lot more metal than prog, and it kicks even more ass. Check it out below the cut.

Webcomic of the Week – The Oatmeal

Posted by Dillon St. Jean On May - 29 - 2010

The internet is full of guides to life.  Everywhere you go, people are trying to tell you what to do and how to live and what brand of orange juice to buy.  But outside of the screaming voices telling you to hurt people or to burn things, there is sometimes an individual that comes along who shows that he’s all about helping you in times of crisis.  Much like when I covered Surviving the World, we can learn a great deal from the just-in-case guides as presented in The Oatmeal.  Matthew Inman draws and writes some pretty good guides about how to handle certain situations, for everything from ‘How to Use a Semicolon’ to ‘What Marcellus Wallace Looks Like’.  Follow these guides and you can never go wrong.  I almost practically kind-of but don’t really guarantee it.

Kicking the Prince and Stealing His Persia

Posted by Andrew Witts On May - 29 - 2010

About a year and a half ago, the original creator of the Prince of Persia series, Jordan Mechner, told the world that the film production of his creation was a fantastic representation of his games. He assured the fans that he was directly involved in the direction of the film and was on set for the filming of most of the sequences. Well, I am a Prince of Persia fan and I am here to tell you that Jordan Mechner is a total liar who fooled his fan base with the usual empty promises that Hollywood executives are normally the culprit of. Mike Newell’s (or should I say Jerry Bruckheimer’s?) film starts off strong, but ultimately becomes a complete waste of production money and your valuable time. Is this because the movie deviates from the game version?

Music Monday – Amon Tobin

Posted by Jamie Concepcion On May - 29 - 2010

Apparently I’m having trouble catching up.  Here is Thursday’s special edition of Music Monday.

Chaos Theory is the soundtrack to Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, the stealth video game.  I know there’s been a lot of great video game music in the past, but this was the first time that I can remember an artist I liked scoring a game I was interested in. And guess what? The album is awesome. It’s not Amon Tobin’s best, but it’s great and flows really well. Check it out under the cut.
