Webcomic of the Week – Nedroid

Posted by Dillon St. Jean On February - 28 - 2010

Remember how I said Dr. McNinja’s colorist Anthony Clark had his own webcomic?  Well here we go.

Anthony’s site is Nedroid, where he does comics about two best friends Reginald and Beartato.  I like to assume that a Beartato is made when you take a potato and you honey roast it.  Hard.  Like, with intensity and stuff.  But yeah, the two are close friends who go on adventures and spend a lot of time just learning about things.  Mainly because they know so very little.

In A Move That Surprises Everyone

Posted by Dillon St. Jean On February - 27 - 2010

Whoever had Sinestro in their “Who Becomes the White Lantern?” pool must have made bank this week, because I’ll bet they were the only one in that category.

Wherein I Analyze Kick-Ass While Trying to Maintain Some Sanity

Posted by Dillon St. Jean On February - 27 - 2010

I don’t know what to say, really.  Kick-Ass was released in hardcover last week and I’m just not sure.  The concept of the story is a simple one, and it’s one we’ve seen many times before: why don’t people in real life try to be superheroes?  Well, it’s because they’d be killed rather quickly, that’s why.  Fortunately, that’s something Millar opts not to ignore in his story.  But still, the main problem I seem to have with this story is that there’s no one actually likable throughout (with the exception of Kick-Ass’ father, and that’s only because he’s barely in it).  Therefore, let’s take a look at the Yays and Nays of the story before the movie is released.

It’d be Terrible to Sneeze

Posted by Jamie Concepcion On February - 26 - 2010

I’ve been playing Bioshock 2 recently, and earlier today I found this video via Kotaku of someone in a Jason mask carving the Big Daddy from Bioshock 2 out of wood with a chainsaw. The video is amazing and the music really enhances it. I’m not that great with my Japanese, so I can’t read the subtitles on the video, but I hope the final product is going to be put on display somewhere. Video under the cut.

Sci-Friday – Starship Troopers

Posted by Jamie Concepcion On February - 26 - 2010

This is one of those movies you probably either love for its campiness, or hate for the same reason.  The cast is full of actors that I wouldn’t want to watch in anything else (except for Michael Ironside and Neil Patrick Harris). Released in 1997, it’s the last movie Paul Verhoeven made that I would watch again or have even seen more than once. It is far from his best movie though, he also directed Total Recall and Robocop.  And no, I didn’t purposely pick a movie he directed two weeks in a row.

People We Admire – Samuel L. Jackson

Posted by Jamie Concepcion On February - 25 - 2010

Samuel Leroy Jackson is a BAMF.  For example, his middle name is Leroy . Not enough? OK, Jackson has also been an extremely prolific actor and overtook Harrison Ford as the highest-grossing movie star of all time.

Check This Out. Don’t Make it Weird

Posted by Jamie Concepcion On February - 25 - 2010

Archer is a fairly new FX show that airs at 10 PM Thursday nights on FX. It stars H. Jon Benjamin as Sterling Archer, a mostly idiotic spy working for an agency staffed by imbeciles and run by his mother. He’s usually an asshole to everyone he meets, which at first makes you not like his character, until a few episodes in you realize sometimes he just doesn’t know better, while other times if he doesn’t act that way nothing will get done. He also seems to really like hookers.

The 11 Best Albums of 2009

Posted by Jamie Concepcion On February - 25 - 2010

This is almost at the point where you can say ” This late, what is his deal?”. But, I figure as long as it’s before the Academy Awards it’s still OK to post year-end lists for the previous year. Plus, after Taylor Swift won the Grammy for Album of the Year I knew I needed to write something.

The Summer of Wii? – Nintendo Summit

Nintendo made a few announcements in the way of game release dates that I think are going to make Wii owners that don’t like going out in warmer weather very happy.
