Video of the Week!! – Uncharted 2

Posted by Jamie Concepcion On September - 23 - 2009

uncharted-2

Uncharted 2 is a PS3 exclusive game that releases October 13th.  Gamepro, i think it was Gamepro, said not only is it game of the year, it’s one of the best of all time.  Anyway, here is a 5+ minute clip of gameplay from Uncharted 2.

Zombieland starring Woody Harrelson looks really funny and is about killing zombies, so what’s there not to like? Check out the trailer below.

Where’s the Flavor?

Mike Judge is awesome, plain and simple. His comedic imagination has birthed some of the funniest shit in the past, what, 20 years now. Beavis and Butthead will always be timeless, King of the Hill had a strong fan base, and Office Space is one of top comedies made in the past 50 years. Judge has had some problems in the past as Idiocracy had a hit or miss feel to it and The Goode Family is muddled in mediocrity. When the trailer for Extract hit theaters, the marketing device was that Mike Judge is making a spiritual follow-up to Office Space. However, this film could not be farther from its predecessor. Extract is a film about the painfulness of every day life. Not so much about going to a monotonous job, but having a scheduled monotonous life. If the film wasn’t trying to be a comedy maybe this would work.

Why does love hurt so much?

Out of all the action movies, all the cool ninjas, samurai, out of all the humorous stories of nonsense, I chose a love story to start with. And don’t worry, I have a few series lined up that once I stop watching, I’ll review.

Video of the Week!! – Surrogates

Posted by Jamie Concepcion On September - 18 - 2009

surrogates

This week’s video of the week is an early trailer for Surrogates, the latest Bruce Willis movie.  I’m kind of excited for this movie, even if it does look like a mix between I, Robot and The Matrix.
I also wanted to include a trailer for Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2, a PS3 exclusive that is basically a spruced up version of the 360 exclusive Ninja Gaiden 2.  It’s like an awesomely bad action movie come to life.

Game Over – Continue?

gamer-poster-interactive

Gamer is one of those movies that you approach with either extreme caution or extreme excitement. In my case, I was the latter. Seeing that this is a film by the Crank directors (Neveldine/Taylor), I was sure to be entertained by ultra-high sensory violence and tongue-in-cheek plot devices. Gamer surely delivers on these fronts but I am not quite sure that it comes off as confident as the Crank films. This is sort of dissappointing since the selling point of these types of films is the fact that they wink at the audience once in a while to remind them that the makers of the film know exactly how ridiculous it is.  Gamer trades in this self-reflexive quality for an attempt at what seems to be social commentary the likes of Rollerball or Thunderdome.

Friendly Neighborhood Flesh-Eater

marvelzombies5-pic1

Marvel Zombies Return is the latest miniseries detailing the adventures of alternate versions of the Marvel Universe who have succumbed to a zombie plague.  Picking up from where Marvel Zombies 2 left off, we find out what happened to the main group of zombies who were teleported away from their home reality.  Now they seem to have been split up to different universes.  Honestly, it’s amazing that the series has gone on as long as it has.  This is the sixth miniseries telling the story of what the Marvel Zombies have been up to, and that’s not including the story arcs of books like Ultimate Fantastic Four, Black Panther, Marvel Apes and Deadpool: Merc with a Mouth.

Pitch Sized Reviews – Gamer

Posted by Jamie Concepcion On September - 13 - 2009

gamer_poster

I saw this movie with Andrew Friday. I think he said he was going to write a review, I kind of hope that he still does regardless of this.  Well, here is my review…

Imagine wearing prismatic glasses in a running, windowed-door dryer while a Scottish man yell-faking an American accent sets off cherry bombs in the neighboring machine.

So, that was the number of words the reviews usually are.  But just to add another point, imagine strippers, that are already topless, keep walking by the window of the machine you’re in.  What more do you expect from the guys responsible for the Crank movies?

People We Admire – Demetri Martin

DemetriMartin

This week I felt it would be nice to take a look at a comedian that manages to experiment with his trade in a way that doesn’t make him look like a horrible Las Vegas-based hack.  Demetri Martin has only just begun to have his taste of celebrity and yet he is already producing a great many things that prove incredibly funny.  He is the star of Important Things with Demetri Martin, where he has been able to show off his talents for comedy in a number of different formats.  However, he’s also managed to show off talents beyond his guitar work and humorously ridiculous drawings.
