People We Admire – Tricia Helfer

This former Canadian supermodel has so much nerd cred it’s not even funny.  She first caught our eyes as the sexy Cylon Number Six in the hit Sci-Fi drama Battlestar Galactica.  She later went on to be featured in the real-time strategy games Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars and C&C3: Kane’s Wrath.  She voiced Spider-man’s former fling Black Cat in the 2008 video game Spider-man: Web of Shadows and a few episodes of The Spectacular Spider-man cartoon.  More recently she voiced Boodikka, a member of the Green Lantern Corps, in Green Lantern: First Flight.  Later this fall when you’re playing Halo 3: ODST listen for her,  she’ll be voicing a character named Dare in that upcoming 360 exclusive.

There are certainly no signs that she’s shying away from her Sci-Fi, video game, and comic book loving fan base, and we appreciate her all the more for that.

Oh yeah, as you can see, she isn’t hard on the eyes either.

We’re Not Geeks!

We’re just intellectually heightened and life impaired!

Well, for my first post, I was going to review Lips versus Karaoke Revolution Encore…but then I realized that it would go on forever…then I realized something.

I’m the nerd that loves anime. That’s right, I’m nerdy enough to have a Naruto tin sitting right on my desk at work filled with grandma candy. It’s okay though since I make up for it by having Goldfinger on top of my HD TV that’s only used for watching anime DVDs and playing Xbox 360 (I guess Wii too…).

What will make our site much more interesting than the rest of the not-a-truck-but-a-series-of-tubes? Simply that we’re all nerds with our own skills (mine being art ) that when combined, we are the Voltron of the internet.

Sit back, read some reviews, get some laughs, and soon enough, watch that plastic cup near you that is rippling. No, we won’t be coming out from behind the electric fence, but you never know when we may make videos that attack your eyes like a Dilophosaurus at your well-known mailman.

Pushers and Movers and Seers, Oh My!

push-bluray-art

It’s hard to go into a movie while previously knowing who the cast is and having seen a couple of trailers without some bias . It’s even harder not to be biased when the cast consists of Dakota Fanning, Camilla Belle (The girl from When A Stranger Calls), and Chris Evans (Johnny Storm from the Fantastic Four movies). The three of them are featured on the cover of the DVD / Blu-Ray along with Djimon Hounsou. Wait, Djimon Hounsou? Wasn’t he nominated for two Oscar‘s? What’s he doing in this movie? Oh, well, he was in Eragon and The Island too. Maybe he has a thing for cheesy Sci-Fi movies.

Push is set in what I’m pretty sure is present day China (I honestly forget, sorry). It focuses on people who have special abilities, such as: Pushers, who can ‘push’ ideas into your head and make them seem like your own; Seers, who can see the future; and Movers, who can move things using telekinesis. Djimon Hounsou plays an agent for a group called Division, which is a government organization capturing people with special abilities and attempting to amp up their powers and turn them into a type of super-soldier.

Son of an Olympian!!

The-Conduit-US

The title may not be obvious to everyone, but I was referring to Kevin Sorbo, the man who played Hercules in the 90’s television series. He is the major voice talent for the recent Wii exclusive first-person shooter The Conduit, in which he plays a character named Prometheus (he can’t escape Greek myth), a character who guides you throughout the game.

On to the game! The Conduit is one of the Wii exclusive titles of 2009 that is supposed to “save the Wii” in the eyes of hardcore gamers. Hopefully we’ll have more on how that’s going in a different post. Is it capable of pulling players away from their 360’s or PS3’s? Well, no it isn’t. The Conduit is a decent game for people who only own a Wii to be excited about. Everyone else who owns another system, stick to that and don’t worry too much, The Conduit isn’t going to pull you away from most other games.

The Conduit’s plot consists of aliens trying to take over Earth, specifically Washington, D.C., and you being the only man who can stop them. There’s also a shady government organization called The Trust, which is trying to get rid of you, thrown in there for good measure. That’s a short plot synopsis, but that’s really it.

On to the critiques!

That was the sound of me no longer being a blog virgin, and entering a world I have never been before. Its a magical place of waterpistols and sit n’ spins, we’re talking about the internet of course. The worlds largest playground, where you can steal weaker characters gold with your ‘k’lan and post your level up straight to your twitter before you’ve even hit the ‘Esc’ key. We live in a world of too many numbers, and no words to back them up. Enter stage left, a cure. Something we will one day tell our grand-children about, and they there’s, until it’s talked about in History classes. Okay maybe we aren’t aiming to be THAT big, but I know we’ll make a dent in Internet History…

Peripheral based games have been around for a while. They must have started earlier, but the recent trend goes back to the late 90s with Dance Dance Revolution. Guitar Hero and Rock Band are responsible for how many developers are now trying to ‘cash in’ and release their own game bundled with a peripheral.

“Who needs story based games? Pssh, everyone has so much money to throw away nowadays! Let’s throw a space-eating piece of plastic in the box and jack up the price!!”

This is going to be a run-down of some of the bigger games bundled with peripherals and looking at some of the future titles to be released.
