15 Best It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia Openings
It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia is back on FX tonight for its 8th season. We wanted to celebrate the new season by looking back, and then of course ranking, some of the best openings the show has had over seven seasons. This isn’t a list of the best episodes, just the best openings. Everything from the beginning to the title card is fair game, but that’s it.
Check below for our favorite 15, and what makes them great.
15 – Season 1 Episode 2 – “Charlie Wants an Abortion” – While the guys are playing basketball a woman walks onto the court and interrupts them. The guys don’t listen, so she ends up saying “It’s about our son” to Charlie, and Dennis replies “No one wants to hear that.”
13 – Season 6 Episode 11 – “The Gang Gets Stranded in the Woods” - While driving through the woods to avoid tolls on their way to a charity event in Atlantic City, Mac, who now thinks he is an animal rights activist, grabs the steering wheel from Frank while yelling “SQUIRREL!”
12 – Season 5 Episode 9 – “Mac and Dennis Break Up” - It’s not anything that’s said as much as it is the expressions on their faces when they realize they spend too much time together that makes this great.
8 – Season 6 Episode 2 – “Dennis Gets Divorced” - Dennis: “Don’t look in those drawers” Maureen: “What’s in those drawers?” Dennis: “My sex tapes” Just a really funny opening. Glenn Howerton nails his performance as Dennis.
7 – Season 2 Episode 4 – “Mac Bangs Dennis’ Mom” - Mac goes to to Frank’s old house to get his toupee. Right before he leaves Dennis’ mom stands in his way and drops her robe to the floor. Then, Mac says “Oh shiiiit”
6 – Season 7 Episode 4 – “Sweet Dee Gets Audited” - Dee says she’s going to claim the baby she had as a surrogate for the tax breaks. Dee: “You guys all better eat a dick, because Sweet Dee beat the system!”
5 – Season 4 Episode 4 – “Mac’s Banging the Waitress” - It sets up a ‘mystery’ that gets solved right before the title card by Mac telling the waitress “he’s onto us”
4 – Season 7 Episode 8 – “The ANTI-Social Network” - Mac :”The whole world’s connected now. It’s all connected by Bill Gates and that rainman Zuckerberg. He and his Jews have connected the whole world and now they’re toppling regimes. And Egypt and Japan and the Jews are all peaceful together.” Dennis: “God damn, I hate gin. Dee, you bitch!”
3 – Season 5 Episode 8 – “Paddy’s Pub: Home of the Original Kitten Mittens” - It opens with the “Kitten Mittons” infomercial.
2 – Season 4 Episode 2 – “The Gang Solves the Gas Crisis” - While the openings where they actually speak the title aren’t as ‘shocking’, this opening featured Mac breaking down group dynamics which includes naming Charlie as the “wild card”, and making a homosexual sounding metaphor.
1 – Season 7 Episode 3 – “Frank Reynolds’ Little Beauties” - Frank runs in the bar and falls down, breaking his nose. Then does a terrible job of telling the rest of the gang about his beauty pageant investment, which surprisingly involves little girls.
There you go, they’ve all been watched and that’s what we came up with. Feel free to comment on your favorites.
